mine split on the pulley end after i fitted a set of cams into the engine. The top rocker cover must have 'pinched' the seal, then when the engine had been run the seal split...after about 10 mins driving I had oil pouring out the side of the head...
The seals themselves arent expensive at all...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Think it depends what class you want on your licence? B C and all that crap?!
God knows, time will tell, still 50/50 on what to do about it!
He says its hard to go into gear.....same as what mine did before i trimmed the green stop thingy and re-set the ratchet...
Just explained to him how to do it, hopefully good news will come back
Did you adjust the pedal/ratchet and cut the pedal stop down slightly?
If the biting point is right at the bottom and its stiff to go into gear, that^ problem causes it.
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
If you've had your licence over a certain amount of time (no idea how long, 1997 maybe) you do not need the seperate trailer test iirc.
But its something to do with the weight of the trailer + weight of the car combined being over a certain amount...

Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Not sure, going to buy another car (preferably with a tow bar) and I may do my towing license. Thinking big, diesel, barge, that will run without any problems tbh!

Il be buying another car yeah. Need to find somewhere to store and work on this over winter, as it was brutal last year on the driveway in the cold and snow!
Once thats done, il get something that I will probably keep for some time as a daily driver, this is becoming a bit of an effort using it...
Cheers for the comments everyone.
Robbos, engine back out, going to be building a fresh one to go in, complete new bottom end, rebuilt and worked head etc. I can then fit the Schrick cams that i've had sat here for months, make some fresh looms and hook up an aftermarket ECU, and get it mapped...
I *think* it tells the airbag computer what position (how far forward or back) the drivers seat is in, so when the airbag is deployed it adjusts how it is fired or something...
Im sure someone will confirm, im not sure if its needed or not...
Well, technically more than a year. There has been a huge amount of work, a lot of trackdays, quite a few engines and a major amount of problems...but its still a lot of fun!
Not cleaned it for about 2 months, so gave it a quick wash and went to grab a few pics  Couple of trackdays left...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Problem with the hub is back....new one is en route from D4ve, then will have to get it machined down etc, ugh!
Also N/S rear wheel bearing has been leaking quite a bit of grease out of the hub cap onto the wheel, bit of play in it so I guess its time to...
yeah, the more the better!

Since found out its been in a major accident and had the whole side of the car replaced, and its on the V5 as 'substantially crash damaged and repaired [date]'....
Proves HPI checks dont always show everything.
