If the hose doesnt hold it in place Ill make up a bracket. Anyway, the carbon fibre wont weigh too much. The throttle body is egg shaped but I worked out that if the perimeter was actually circular it would be 82mm diameter. So a bit of 83mm Samco hose will deform to fit the egg shape.

Dont sell yourself short Ben, 1/2 second over the 1/4 mile is a big difference in my opinion.

The only other bits you will need are a ram-scoop in the bumper plus the hose to hook it up to the original air feed in the engine bay, then a Samco 90 degree bend with an 83mm ID. and 2 or 3 big jubilee clips.

Ive just been on the blower to BMC about the carbon airbox and it seems there is now one that is designed specifically for the 172 which is 150mm diameter and 160mm long. That size will be perfect for my 16v but how big are the inlet and outlet flanges? Are they 85mm or 70mm? Anyone know?

Well Renaults arent known for reliability, especially electrical problems. Its just something you have to get used to - high maintenance if you like.

Magnex is always good. I heard a few complaints a while back about the fit on 172s but I think theyve sorted it now. I wouldnt use anything else except Magnex on my 16v.

Dave have you thought of just getting the spanners out, jacking it up and doing it yourself? The only bit that isnt easy unless you have the right tools/expertise is the torsion bar. The struts should just come right out, then you just put the new ones in, piece of piss especially with coilovers.

Well having lowered my Clio 35mm and just gone from 195/50/15 to 215/35/18 I can say that a bigger rolling radius will blunt your acceleration off the line quite noticeably. And it also will put the speedo out by a fixed percentage which will be most apparent at speed. EG when my clock says...

The rally cams might be a bit hot for everyday driving. Mine idles all over the place when its cold and thats just the Piper 270 (fast road) cams. Sounds like some kind of steam traction engine! Not that I mind but Im sure my engine mounts are only gonna last 5000 miles.
