Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
yeah I have mate, can meet you somewhere with it when i sort the mount or you can pick it up...
Cams arent in yet nah, just took them out of tooneys today. Not sure when they are going in (plan was before FCS), but with all this s**t from the neighbours...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
thing is, my mum uses any 'incident' as an excuse to stop me doing the car
"ive had enough of cars in bits all the time and the neighbours must be too bla bla bla", i was like give a s**t its naff all to do with them, then all i get is "well I have to live...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
left mine for today, tooney came down around lunchtime, time to remove the schricks!
Schricks are furthest away in picture. His standard cams are now back in, timed up and running fine :) Just after we finished it all kicked off with the nighbours...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
so I thought, whys the engine leaning, oh....a fooked mount!
but oh no, the bolts were hanging out, and the brace had snapped clean off...
one bolt had sheared off...
And the holes on the mount ovalled...
fcuks sake.
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Exhaust manifold has been blowing worse and worse since brands, after having a look I noticed the engine was leaning down on the gearbox side....so I set about looking at it this morning....
Thought the rubber was worn as it was leaning one way, but after...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
done quite a lot on the blue valver today, last parts removed, its bare now!
Cleaned up the near new JB3 (1.8 16v) box that was on it, not that old....previous owner had it from renault....Came up nice after a very quick jetwash...
Oh...and the...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Nah mate, not a mechanic...
Yes the engines stock so far, just no power steering/ac pump etc...
Its a 172 Ph2 bottom end, and a Ph1 head...
Fitting cams shortly (as above), and a few other bits....
The gearbox is a 1.8 16v (Valver) JB3 gearbox :)
will see what mine weighs tommorow hopefully
polycarb windows all around, boot skin removed, all inner bonnet skins removed, no dash etc....still got inner door skins and sunroof to loose!
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
yeah, had to do that on some I fitted for someone else....my standard pads were a tight fit with the shims in place, i took them out when I fitted those anyway
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
yep they time up with the standard renault timing tools, as other cams available for the f4r do.....they will run on a standard ECU/map, but to get the best gains, a remap is best!
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Tooney (Who im having them off), is running them on a standard ecu and standard engine....well, decat/itg filter/matched inlets, made 192bhp when mapped iirc!
quite a few others on here are running them with good results too
also drove it at brands....felt pretty boring tbh. but I am used to stripped out/manual steering/heavy clutch etc...
this was like feather clutch, silly light steering, and quiet! 3 things im not used to...it was planted to drive...but just no fun imo!
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
should be easy now....ECU is running the emulator so should be spot on for the rest of its life, and engine out is an hours job max :)
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
they are timed up like normal cams would be, and are in 'time' when the slots at the flywheel end line up with the timing tool correctly...they just need a map to get the best from them also
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Shricks..
Jobs on the list at the moment are (before FCS)...
-Fit/Weld Cage In
-Take engine out..
--swap gearbox to my other JB3 (Bolt in Diff and very low milage)
--fit cams and time them up
-Relocate ECU to scuttle panel, going to modify loom when...
