Has your gearbox run dry I'd try topping it up. They get notch with low oil.

Not 100% sure on prices but £40 for the top one £50 for the battery one and £35 or so for the dogbone and if you have a 172 the gearbox one is about £45 from memory.

Its under the scuttle panel on the drivers side. Not to difficult to get at but likle all stuff on a Clio small hands help. Only 3 bolts from memory hold the top cover on there one or so clips holding the scuttle panel on. haynes manual will show you how to do it.

The knocking can be down to the mount best way of checking I've found is to lift off at high revs and you can fell the engine shake round when its worn. However it can alos be donw to how the mount is if there adjusted correctly then there shouldn't be an issue (so long as its not worn)...
