To the OP.
It's certainly unusual by what your describing. Are you getting flow into the header tank? Do you live near a specialist?
FLOL. With the drivel you've posted before I don't need to discredit you, you've done that yourself.
Anyway...
Are you sure if was boiling and not just having the flow into the header tank? The gauges usually go right to the top just as it starts to boil. The fan would've carried on too...

Don't run it like that mate. For the sake of a day off work 'sick' could lead into £0000's as it WILL snap and take the cambelt
I know group N timing isn't far from what you've had, so it may have been a case that it was flat at the bottom(20 or so bhp down from OEM) but held its power further up the range.
Worst one I've seen, the cams locked up perfectly, but the crank was so far out, without removing the bottom pulley to see the slot, I didn't know which way to turn it to get the mark in view on the gearbox.
