Mine has been doing similar lately. More it's been a struggle to actually get it into reverse. I just put it down to the cold weather and the oil maybe being fairly thick still.

The CC will be more accurate than the Speedo (it is in my case anyway) but I'm not sure if there's a way to reset it. I believe it'll partly come down to tyre Size,wheel Size, tyre pressures etc.

I doubt the corrosion will be playing a part in anything. You just don't want to blast s**t down the spark plug bore whilst cleaning! Your idea sounds perfectly fine, and spraying with brake cleaner is usually fairly powerful with a decent aerosol.
