right, as with the majority of 1.2 16v issues, first suspect is the loom. Needs to go on diagnostics to check it out and see what the ECU thinks is going on though. I'm not far from you
plastic tray (windage tray) is to stop the crank dragging in the sump oil ;)
Only ever heard of surge once. Think it was round a very long fast corner at mallory
warning light could be lambda, although the ecu doesn't rely on it for cold start/running. sparkplugs would be worth checking. Needs plugging into diagnostics to look at live data and fault codes
ahh, i see what's happened.
Looks like the fairly well known fault of valve heads falling off. They're made in 2 pieces and they seem to just fall apart sometimes. There's also a theory about damaged valve guides (from bent valves) increasing the likelyhood of valve head failure...
sorry, you said a "set" of valves. took that to mean all cylinders
check the piston in that cylinder is fitted the right way round. If the head has been skimmed it could well be enough to make contact if one piston is fitted the wrong way
I'd be looking for some genuine renault alloys, some quite nice ones on later 1.2 16vs. if it's the 1.2 8valve engine, you wont get any more power from it. Cracking engine for reliability but not a powerhouse, lol
that's a good price for the car with a nice list of recent work done. remember there's almost no cars around worth less than £2k thanks to scrappage scheme
yes easily, all the pulleys are free floating (non keyed) if the correct timing procedure wasn't used and the correct tightening torques and angles adhered to it will do exactly what you've experienced
