did you loosen the upper gearbox mount at the same time? That's what you have to do to eliminate vibration. Loosen the 2 bolts either side of the gearbox mount AND the 4 bolts on the upper mount all at the same time (only a couple of turns needed) pull the engine back and forth a couple of...
I like to completely submerge the body in de-greaser and scrub it thoroughly with a stiff brush, then brake cleaner to rinse it off, then white grease the spring and spindle
I've seen springs changed on engines without removing the head ;) not on a F4R, but not an immposibilty at all, there's a few different tools to do it. I wouldn't personally, screw risking dropping a collet down an oilway
well it says in the ad that they're re-profiled, and it's no secret that the F4R doesn't cope very well with re-profiled cams as the base circle becomes too small and the lash adjusters (tappets) reach their limit of travel and the top end becomes noisy
few mechanical diagnostics checks you can do, but you can only really get a good indication rather than a definitive answer. Does sound a lot like the water pump, and it's not too hard to get access to it and see if it's been leaking. There will be white scale under the pulley, most likely. not...
The point isn't the car at all, the point is the feat of engineering. the shell without the engine is worth about £50. Gordon spent years building that car and it's an animal
plenty of examples of F7's that dont make book power too.
Just because you dont understand it, doesn't make it wrong
the F4R is a big step forward from the F7R, they're a closely related engine obviously.
The megane F7R is a step forward from the williams F7R in the same way. Technology...
talking out of your arse again. I dont know why i'm dignifying this with a reply. The F4R IS a superior engine. It DOES make more power, more torque and is more reliable. Low outputs are normally down to faulty assembly, the example you gave being the perfect case study....the cam timing was out...
LOL, I dont really know any non petrol heads. I gave one of my customers (garage owner) a lift in my mk1 the other day, and the next day he dug his williams 3 out of storage and sent it to the auto electricians to FINALLY be fixed.
Nearly all of my friends are car people or reformed car people...
