I've seen that once before. The engine had been rebuilt under warranty by a renault dealer and the pistons fitted the wrong way round. When aftermarket cams were fitted it became an issue and the valves clipped the pistons lightly and made a horrible noise. Unplugging the VVT solenoid stopped...
bit extreme to send it to oselli for cleaning!! i bet there's at least 5 engine reconditioners/engineers in or around bristol who could put it in their tank
autosmart TrebleX. It's descaling acid, same as the concrete disolving stuff stan told you about. Just wear gloves and glasses. it stings like a motherfucker
well if it's getting upto temperature better it will be coming off cold start fueling easier. If it wasn't getting hot it would have been running rich and probably bogging down a bit.
I'm hoping it's had a new aux belt at the same time ;) so that would have solved the belt slipping
you have the standard upper mounts? do the same thing as i said for the uprated items, slacken it all and re-tighten (dont have to remove the bolts, just undo them a couple of turns.
It may just be that your upper mounts are worn out though
As said, anyone can learn it, just those who focus on one brand of car tend to invest a bit more time, effort and knowledge of the specifics into the job. For example, the procedures in Autodata for the F4R are wrong, and most places will go off that (I use renault tech documents) There's a lot...
solid lifters add far more to the cost than anything else, and for the smallest gain. Roughly an extra £3k for 5-10bhp. Not worth it IMO, it's not a honda
i did say "should". I dont have knock/ignition adaption and i've never had it in any other cars either so i can't give a long term judgement on economy, but i did and do have the best knock limits with tesco 99
well if it's giving knock protection, it should give good economy as that's what governs the ignition timing compensation/adaption.
Dont know what the additive they use is, read about it quite a while back
Tescos were selling 99 two years before shell (optimax was 98 RON) They use a different octane increasing additive. Tescos 99 is meant to be one of the best for knock protection, but with the most synthetic additives, so it's "dirty"
My car HATES BP fuels, I get detonation like a b*****d from...
there isn't a tensioner on that chain. other engines sometimes use a shim between the pump and the block to adjust it, but i dont know of these for the F4R. Sounds like it's normal really
