Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
seen a LOT worse than that. would need machining but I wouldn't scrap that crank straight off. Be aware that the block will be full of swarf in all the oil ways, and the pump will probably be shafted too. cams ok?
Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project
:S a used crank can be used just fine, with new bearings you can check the tollerence is good quite easily.
That crank looks like it might get away with a polish if the thrust face is ok (only bit i can't see) Strange failure though
not that much in it really. 1.9 is a much better spec'd car and requires less thrashing to go quickly. Engine is less rev happy but much more pleasant IMO
handling and fun will piss on the clio, but you have to remember they're quite a bit older and less refined. Anyone on here who thinks a cup is dangerous because it has no ABS would s**t themselves. I've owned 5 205s, 4 being GTIs. I love them, but i'd warn off anyone who doesn't want to, or...
-10 just means that's what a particular plug is set at as stock. You can get exactly the same plugs but without the -10 suffix.
I'm assuming you have NGK BCPR7ES or BCR8ES, in which case about 0.9mm is a starting point. New ones are very cheap so just change them
195/50/15 will be better for grip and be cheaper (THE most common size made)
I'd do all 4 though, some bargains about for a whole set if you shop about
makes a bit of a difference, but the extra noise gives a perception of a much larger gain that is really there most of the time. Going full out stripped to bare bones will be well worth it, but personally that's not a nice car anymore
rear brakes do very little, so they rear isn't slowing itself down. If the front is in top form and the rear is just "ok" then the only thing acting on slowing the rear is the fact the front is holding it back. Learned this many years ago on bigger cars where if you fit big front brakes you get...
fit a new gasket to the manifold/cat join, Most clios i see need a new one. The crack in the exhaust is a common plce for them to break, normally rust through
there's no part available specifically for the inner boot on a ph2 172 (shaft different to a ph1) you could probably rig up something with a universal boot, but there's no lip to retain it.
