Hi Guys,
Having a bit of trouble trying to decide what figure to put on the interior from the 172 that im breaking.
The person wants the full interior (apart from the seats) so all carpets and sound deadning, wiring loom, heater, all switches and handles, all trim and door cards, dashboard...
Can Catcams 423's be used on and engine with standard pistons or is the lifts to high? Also can the pistons take the revs or would i better off going for 422's?
Cheers
Mike
Im ment to be getting a 172 to break for spares and my mate wants the front suspension to widetrack for his valver. How much a full setup worth? I dont want to rip him off cause he's a mate but i dont want to give it away either. All the stuff is off a 50k phase 1
Thanks
Mike.
To mask where the bolts go gets some of those paper reinforcing rings that you use to stop paper tearing out of a ring binder, can get them from whsmith etc. They work a treat.
Ive just put a helix paddle clutch in my cup racer and its fine, little more grabby buts thats it. Make sure you get one with a sprung hub and you will be fine.
I do 8-10k a year beleive it or not. But alot of people just get the bus to work etc if they work in town.
Owned by an old woman, so wheels were kerbed all the way round and every pannel had dents. Interior was nice though. I could of had it for £5k but it just wasnt good enough condition for...
Liking the car, ive got a cup racer which is converted to RHD so if you have any questions just PM me. Looks like and ex TCR car that like mine, interior is the right colour for it.
Loving the hairdryer in the corner of the dash aswell, the heater/blower on them really is poor.
Use to wash my first car every 3-4 days when i was at school and had nothing better to do. But that was 4 years ago, Ive washed my Valver 4 times in 7 months lol, i just wait till its so dirty i cant bare to drive it anymore. Interior get done probably once a month though.
Thats sort of the money i was thinking. 35-40k is average for an 8 year old car over here, I went to see an 02 172 cup about 3 months ago with 9k on the clock. Drive was awesome, £6k price tag wasnt lol
Been to see a silver 2002 172 and looking for some opinions on roughly how much its worth.
Its done 37k, Last time it was serivces was 12k ago, belts havent been done, wheels curbed, rear bumper needs repainting due to scrapes, has a good few dings down each side, interior is reasonable could...
Rev it nearly to the limiter. Although the power will drop off towards the end of the rev range you still need to rev it out. This is so the engine is still on cam when you change to the next gear. If you shift earlier the engine wont be pulling so hard when you come back on the power.

Listen to this man, deffinatly has to be done this way. The manual for my cup racer only states 1 cambelt change procedure and you HAVE to back off both cam pulleys.
Some garages may have the horse shoe cam locking tool and the crank pin, but alot will not have the pulley locking tool...
I didnt change mine when i did my belt, but i have the renault tools and did the work myself so if it goes wrong ill just change it.
Yours might be fine, but it could also go wrong. So you have to decided spend the £160 now and have piece of mind that its been changed, or you can leave but...
Im sure its £3k from gripper for a dog box with an LSD, sequential is obviously alot better. I know as i have one, but i dont think your alowed to run with them in time attack or other race series'.
Ive seen engines blow because of dog box's also, but ive also over reved my motor a few times...
Dog gearkit and LSD before ITB's, A proper gearbox makes a car.
1st gear in road gearbox is usually to short for racing, you get far to much wheel spin. And while your fellow racers are pulling out of a tight corner in second bogging down off cam, you can be in first gear right on the power...
Ive taken the car out today and the clutch works fine if you only push the pedal half way down. If you push it fully down you can hear what seems to be the presure plate fingers touching the drive plate hub which is obviously not good.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I could just fit a...
Bugger, that will be the 3rd time in a month the motor has been in and out. Someone shoot me now lol.
Gonna take it for a dirve tomorrow to see if i can get it to free off with some brutality. Must be something wrong with the drive plate as the pressure plate looks to be moving fine.
Clutch pedal feels fine, if you shine a torch into the bell housing you can see the release bearing pushing the pressure plate back and forth. gear linkage isnt a problem as its sequential.
And yep its in the right way round Fred, It was a bit of a b*****d to get the first motion shaft to go...
Does anyone know if there is a larger mastercylinder from another renault that can be fitted to a 172. Need one to go with my 4pots to get rid of the soft pedal.
Hi Guys,
Ive just fitted a new helix paddle clutch kit to my 172 and ive just gone to drive the car and the clutch will not disengage so i cannot get it into gear. Ive removed the clutch fork boot and i can see the release bearing is pushing the clutch fingers fine.
Any ideas?
Dunno yet mate havent got a quote. But its not silly money from what i remeber as my bro had it done to his manni. Gonna get mine done at some point next year.
Why not get it ceramic coated? mine is wrapped on the cup racer atm but im going to get it coated because wrap looks untidy after a while and its a bit of a fire hazzard when mixed with oil.
