    You need to match the entire rotating assembly mate, not just the crank. Pistons and rods play a big part in how the engine balances out.

    You'd get away with leaving the ones near the column open tbh. I used some cap head blanking plugs in mine. I'll try and find them and post a link.

    Yeah 197 has a different pump so you have to use the 1*2 cambelt as you convert the 197 head to this setup. It sounds far more complicated than it actually is. We are literally talking drilling and tapping the head to accept a bolt for an idler tensioner.

    Remember your hub kit will push your track width out another 5mm per wheel, so 10mm overall mate. Yeah I'm good thanks mate - it's alright I'm used to your empty promises now! Lol! You?

    I'd expect the idle speed to be somewhere in the region of 1200rpm for maxi and maxi evo cams tbh. It's usually the only way you'll get an engine with knobbly cams to tickover. I'll have a price on the rods sometime this coming week mate.

    Just fit a ph1 gearbox. Far easier and it gives you more top end over the gearbox you currently have.

    I guarantee you the dog teeth on the gears are worn worse than the synchros mate. Trust me, I've seen plenty now.

    To convert a 172/182 to the 197 is a mission mate. I've done it and it's not worth the effort. That's one of the reasons I went to a 197 head/inlet combo. Plus, the 197 head is far superior to the 172/182 one.
