I've started using my other car less and less, because I actually love driving my 172. And it costs peanuts to run.
It's just had new springs and dampers all round along with ball-joints, Cup wishbones and new bushes, new brakes, brake fluid and a set of Cup Turinis and I have to say it feels...
I've recently run out of all of my usual products so wondered if you guys could recommend some products and techniques that would suit a budding 'hobbist' detailer? I'm interested in hard-wearing and lasting protection and I'm happy to top-up coats weekly, if need be.
Sealants, glazes, polishes...
Re: iPhone 5. Pre-Orders 14/9. Ships 21/9. iOS6 Today @ 6PM
Initial impressions on ipad3 - meh. Not bad, not great.
Maps seem ok, Flyover is a cool distraction (when looking at London, anyway!) - most of the main landmarks are there, but there are large patches that have been omitted. It also...

That review is as expected, really.
I'm getting one, but I can empathise with those that have stated that there's no real reason to upgrade from a 4S (same software/ similar spec). Their choice. It was never going to be like the leap...
I got them from a guy who was breaking a Cup. Also, when they arrived, it was actually your posts on the subject that helped me identify the feature to look for (outer bolt hole placement)! Thanks! :D
I bought a pair of Cup wishbones from a breaker on eBay for £35 delivered. Bushes seem good and after giving them a going over with a wire brush, and a spatter of Hammerite smooth they look like new! Get some bought!
I used to have a Cup but now have a boggo 172 and I prefer the lardy car (with...
Ah, didn't think about it like that. Every day's a school day... :)
So, when the time comes that it does fail or I decide to replace it, is it worth replacing the boot or grabbing an entire second-hand shaft from RenParts or similar?
Thanks guys, it really does appear minor, so I'll go with my gut and your advice.
What I would like to know now is your views on the tyres. New ones on the front or back?
Appreciate the input, Owen, thanks. However, one would assume that as it's an inner gaiter, it would fling grease around...
I'm going to Bedford GT circuit on 3rd Nov in my new-to-me 172 and I want to make sure it's tip-top before I go.
In the last 3-4 weeks, I've replaced discs & pads all-round/ braided lines/ brake fluid/ air filter/ oil & filter/ spark plugs/ coolant/ ball joints/ reluctor rings.
Well, as I've...
Could be any of these, I'd imagine:
Strut-top bearing/ mount?
Wishbone bush?
Anti-roll bar bush?
CV Joint?
But if it's gone away, don't worry about it! :D
Checked obvious things like how tight the sump plug is?
Most seem to have a bit of a weep around the gear selector, so I'd not be *too* concerned about that. Keep an eye on it just in case, you should be able to tell if it's gearbox oil - gear oil smells of cat pee.
If I were you, I'd get it...
Mine aren't working. Can anyone let me know how you get the buggers out of the headlight units? Look to be a twist-fit but didn't want to force anything! Or do I have to whip the bumper off and take the light unit out?
Cheers for any info!
Went to get the air-con re-gassed and discovered a pipe was fractured!
The current list is:
- Source an Air conditioning pipe replacement and fit it
- Air conditioning re-gas
- Adjust handbrake
- Track down the rattly exhaust/ heat shield (though suspect a fooked baffle)
- Find a way of...
36, mildly modified Iceberg ph2 172 run-about. Used to have a less than perfect 172 Cup. Prefer the 172.
Still hate the driving position but love the driving dynamics of these cars.
