Agreed about the not much difference between them (not that Im biased or anything), but the mk1 172 doesnt have all the goodies. I think its only got spare wheel, multichanger, aircon and leather over the Cup. Probably explains why they are a similar weight.
No automatic wipers, lights...
1. 6/10 (BTW people, BRUN asked about reliability/build quality, not performance, which Im sure we all agree is top notch :D)
2. No
3. Definitely not. There are so many other car makers out there, I might as well see if any of them actually respect and value their customers by providing...
I painted the yellow Cup "172" badge and stuck it under the "Clio" badge on the boot. I sprayed it the same silver as the car, as I wanted it subtle, but there....!
Are there any centre sections left in the exhaust system? Ive got a de-cat on my 172, but there are no signs of any pops. Ive been told that this is because there are a couple of silencers after the car. Arse, feck and drrrink.....I want popping too
Youll never make back on the car the amount that Renault will charge you just for having a few Renault stamps in the book. Find a local Renault specialist who will do the work for half the price. When I buy vehicles, I only care that the work has been done, not that the dealers did the work.
Thats a good point actually. Im another in the "never touching Renault again even if they paid me to" catagory. Its worth What Car? taking into account the likely service (see "lack of") that he will receive at a Renault dealer when his whole car drops to bits within 5 minutes of picking it up.
I personally think the ABS on the 172 is really good. If I break too hard, the wheels will lock audibley for a fraction of a second before the ABS kicks in. Just hear a chirrup from the wheels, no screeching. This means that the ABS isnt at all intrusive. Its only there when it needs to be...
Regarding Chrisnnics Cup, they had the bonnet open right after each run up until the next run. Not practical in normal road use to keep an open filter cool! They could get a better time with a sealed kit for sure. Id put money on it (if only I ever had any!)
Want to see my 0-60 times from AP22 with K&N in engine bay compared to relocated and standard airbox?! An open filter in the 172 does cost performance.
Forget threatening with Watchdog, it doesnt work. Theyll hear it all the time. Just tell them that you are intesnding to inform trading standards, then immediately make your complaint to Trading Standards via their web site. Theyll be in contact with both parties in less than a week.
Every...
Yup, go for a panel filter, or, if you want the noise, get an open induction kit and locate it in front and slightly down from the battery. This works very well too and sounds brilliant.
I managed to get 3 air feeds from under the car to just behind the passenger headlamp where I located a...
The cat went on my Williams and ended up checking small bits of silvery white honeycomb structure out of the back. When I took the cat off, there was a lump of honeycomb about the size of a potato left which would have probably back fired out of the back if Id left it any longer.
Buy a new cat...
Ive got the cloth and metal hoop (100mm?) airfeed. Its the other side of the viper that is too small. Will just sell it and get one with a wider diameter. When keeping lower than 6000rpm, the viper seemed to work well. It just couldnt supply enough air to supply high revs.
The normal airbox...
Will do, cheers.
Ive had to take off the Viper IK (made a c**k up with the inlet size) but with just the Viper, it takes the 0-60 (standard airbox) to highly consistent 6.3 seconds. Will sort out a new IK and try to higher speeds as it feels better in 3rd and 4th than 1st and 2nd.
Feck, working next Saturday :( If the 26th is free, then Ill come along. Do you actually get some free track time or is it just watching race cars?
Ive got the AP22 back, so Im going to try some 0-60 runs tonight. I agree with matt that the biggest difference seems to be in 3rd, 4th and 5th. I...
Theres a base spec VW Bora round my way with the reg plate F1 CAR. They could have probably afforded an F1 car if theyd not bothered with the plate. Very bizzare. They also have a Rav 4 with the plate X RA11Y.
Ive read somewhere on here that the 172 MK1 throttle body inlet is 72mm. If any point in the air intake system is less than 72mm, will this restrict the engine, and if so, to what degree?
Got to be a 306 Rallye (in black or white) or an Integra Type R, as previously mentioned. I wouldnt bother with a GTi-6 myself when theres the Rallye on offer. Saw a T plate scooby with about 40k on the clock for £6995. Thatd also tempt me along with the 20V Turbo Fiat Coupe at £4995!
Not sure about fuel ecomony with the filter. All I notice is that Im constantly filling the b*****d up with Optimax. Panel filters are cheap, do the job and require little or no fuss to fit them. Open cone induction kits need to be located as far from heat as possible, but sound ace.
To fit a...
Ive noticed that all 172s seem to be a bit lower at the front than at the back. Kind of makes sense to keep the weight of the engine close to the road. You might mess up the balance of the car by dropping the rear further than the front.
