TB inlet size question

Ive read somewhere on here that the 172 MK1 throttle body inlet is 72mm. If any point in the air intake system is less than 72mm, will this restrict the engine, and if so, to what degree?

It shouldnt make a great degree of difference unless its a vast amount smaller... flow rates are relative to the size of each pipe, hence the air flow through the throttle body is equal to that of the manifold etc.
