Thats right the oil doesnt need to be drained, it just pulls off. Although on some I think there is a pin you will need to punch out. Theres places that sell universal ones or I think renault still sell the repair kit for the inner gaitor.
I wouldnt recommend those as they cause more stress on the other mounts and the mount frame/bolts on the gearbox. The only place that sells them for a ph1 is renault and they are very expensive.
If you check the mount and see if the rubber is perished/torn. If not try adjusting it.
The only thing that I can think of thats different is that on the cup it doesnt have abs rings. But if you had a shaft that had them it should still fit. I dont think theres any other differences.
If you put a 172ph1 gearbox in a cup it will be slightly slower accelerating (not much though) due to the longer ratios. Not sure what the differences are with the 129 and 130s. From memory Renault strengthened some guide pin or something somewhere in the later boxes??
Ive seen a high spec etoile with them, it also had passenger lights in the rear and lights in the doors. Can you take a pic of them, are they just heating ducts?
I bet its because its specified for Australia. Car manufactures make slight changes due to the country they are destined for. Things such as climate (coolant level/oil grade etc) LHD/RHD, rust protection, underbody protection, Suspension height, daytime running lights, petrol octane, emmision...
Cambelt only has to come off on the 197, on the 172/182 its all driven by the aux belt. Not sure what they mean by play, are they making a noise, does the water pump leak or whine when engine is cold?
Its not a warning light as such, just a information light or the engine saying "ouch".. It can be handy when your accelerating hard but have to concentrate purely on the road, when you catch the light in the bottom of your eye you know you can change gear without watching the rev dial. I...
I guess the mount will have to come from renault. Ive read on here that others have sourced the wishbones but no idea what they are like. I think theres a seller on ebay.
The only other bits i can think of is the coilpack and the throttle body, neither of these should be loose at all!! If you mean where the leads plug into the coilpack, from memory these will twist with a bit of resistance..
This is from the Renault mk2ph1 brochure which includes rs models, it also says it in the 172 exclusive (although I dont think any of them had it!!!) brochure and the 172mk1 press release. It reads "White instrument dials with renaultsport logo and optimum gear-change indicator".
Its ok to unplug it all. There are 2 sensors which I think you mean, the map sensor (black sensor near oil cap) and air temp sensor (grey sensor on other side). Both of these are normally loose and can move around but they shouldnt be loose enough to fall out. Both of them can be pulled out...
5w-40w fully synthetic will be fine. Yeah the top plenum chamber needs to be removed. Im not sure what you mean by a bit being loose but it doesnt sound right. Theres a guide on how to remove it in the guides section.
Renault describe it as the "optimum gear change indicator".
Renault specced it as being in all cars but it seems to be mainly the earlier ones and the odd random later car. My 2000X reg has it.
The dogbone mounts for the ph2 are a lot cheaper than the ph1 (because the ph1 ones are better ;)) so I guess thats what your mate maybe thinking of??
Id get the clutch cable from Renault as they are selling a slightly improved one. Try and get the mount and wishbones from somewhere like...
Your car has the D7F engine. They only did the grande/rn in 1.2 8v and 1.9D. The early mk2ph1s as pictured in the haynes had that engine identical to the mk1 clio. Around late 99 they changed the engine slightly by changing the spark plug cover and manifold and moving the expansion tank. So...
