It is was a Red one. And it was pretty nice I dont think I will be changing the 172 for one though! It has a great engine and gear box but that is about it. It doesnt feel that quick when your driving it but I know it is. The steering is awful the car has no personality which is the biggest...
The CTR is sitting on the drive, just having a spot of lunch!
JoZeFF not necesarily what size tyres have you got on the 15s? If they are 195/50 R15 then there is very little difference between the diameter of the 16s but thay are slighly smaller so I would imagine you may have a slight...
Right mate I have the answer. The main proplem with fitting 17s is the diameter of the tyre and NOT the weight (though Im sure if you put a considerably heavier wheel then it will slow you down)
On a 172 most people including me put a 205/40R17 tyre on well this increases the diameter by 14mm...
Diameter makes a huge difference, I have learnt to my cost! Increasing the diameter effectively changes the cars gearing. Think of it on a bike if you use a bigger cog on the drivetrain it becomes harder to pedal, so imagine how that could work on a car!!!
Yeah the wheels do look good, the car looks more purposeful, fills the arches more. But acceleration is affected and by more than you might think. I may end up keeping my wheels cos they look so good I still have the originals so they can be swapped over. But now is the time to sell them if im...
Cheers SoLow at least mine look manacing :D Have you got the address of that Website you were talking about?
For anyone thats interested just weighed the wheels: The 16s with a very worn tyre is 16.5kg and the 17s with brand new tyre is 16.8kg so as far as weight goes there is nowt in it...
Dont bin it its still good stuff and Im sure you havent done any damage. You just dont need to use it all the time.
Use it once a year to freshen the paint up and use a wax once a fortnight and regularly use something like Turtle Wax extra gloss guard, gives it a deep shine and its dead easy...
Cheers for the replies.
Had the 17s off today and put the 16s back and the difference is what I expected the car is much quicker!!! Could stick with my dad all day!! All that money for nothing. Must say though the car corners better than the 16s though it is bit more twitchy on the 17s...
True - as it take a small amout of paint of your car. Use it too much and youll end up with no paint :o
Once a year should be enough, if you must wax it once a month then use a normal wax with no abbrasives. I use Turtle Wax Extreme Polish works a treat
Definately closer on standard wheels as the test with my dad showed! The car just doesnt pull as well now, need more revs to get it going from a stand still. Going to put the 16s back on this afternoon and go out for another test.
KeithO - if I had more time I would seriously consider your CTR!!
:(:(:(:(:(
Well met up with Keith (KeithO) Paul (Cuppy 172) and SoLow last night and I wish I hadnt.
Had a bit of chat and then went for a spin (the part I wish I hadnt). All pretty much straight line stuff but up a slight incline both time. The CTR passed me first like a was standing still...
What i had 195/45R16 I ran 36psi front and 32psi rear found that to be the best for me. Its all personal opinion anything round those figures should be OK.
With 205/40R17 I run 33psi front and 31 rear cos they have a slighly harsher ride
Got my 17s fitted yesterday and went out for a bit of a thrash last night to how they faired.
First of all you can definately tell there is something different! The steering feels slightly different, a little heavier but not not in any bad way. You certainly feel the bumps in the road more and...
While I was getting my new alloys :D fitted I got the chance to have a good look at one of these, first one I have seen. They look and sound great (not sure if this one had a different exhaust)...
