Cheers for the pics bmh.01. Looks like a tight job alright:eek:
I have the next 3 months off college, and not much part time work, so i can afford to take my time at it which should help a little. Quite a few of my friends are also apprentice/qualified mechanics so should i run into difficulty...
cheers mate, you're a wealth of knowledge
i don't know about anyone else, but this all makes clear sence to me, and i don't understand why everyone makes a big deal about trying it themselves. dosn't look like it would be too hard once you take your time and check everything over two or three...
cool, so how do you know if the crank is at top dead centre, and the pin isnt locking it in the balancing hole rather than the timing point?
And when you lock the cams in position, how do you get the grooves to line up horizontally and offset downwards from the locking tool? Or will it all be...
What order is it one in exactly?
Intake and rocker cover off
Immobilise the flywheel
Aux belt pulley off
Slacken the tensioner
Remove the pulley beside the tensioner
Remove the belt
Degrease the crankshaft and pulley
Remove the camshaft seals, turn the cam pulleys by hand until the grooves are...
cheers lads, must give this a go over the next three months now.
as for what i need parts wise, would i not be best to replace the waterpump and vvt pulley aswel no?
Is it a universal cam locking tool you got on ebay? I had a look for them there and couldn't find any specific to clios or even renaults?
I thought i read somehwere that it's better to loosen the cam pulleys, is that just waffle? I don't mind paying the extra bit for the cam immobilising tool...
cheers lads, thats the positive attitude i wanted to hear. yes i would usually do all my own work myself; have changed suspension, exhausts and radiators on a few cars, not to mention servicing all my own regularly. only thing i havn't really tried yet is clutch and belt changes. I have the next...
how exactly does the bmw junction work? is it just an easier way of connecting the old wires to the new wires going to the boot of the car? does it provide an earth cable, or should i still run an earth to the chassis in the boot?
The interior will be coming out of the clio for a good clean over the coming weeks and i've been considering moving the battery to the boot while it's out in order to free up space in the engine bay for a better induction kit.
I was wondering what exactly i would need to do this so i can gather...
Has anyone on here that isn't a trained mechanic ever tried changing a 172 cambelt and auxbelt themselves?
I would consider myself handy enough with a spanner when it comes to cars and was considering giving it a shot. I know theres quite a bit at stake and it is a hard job to do with the vvt...
It appears my rear drivers side shock is leaking slightly, and the car badly needs lowering, so I decided now is the best time to tackle my suspension..
Have about 400stg max to spend and looking for something aimed at everyday driving with the odd trackday in mind.
The two options i've been...
just a quick update as i'm bored haha
took a trip to gsf and renault and got a few bits to service it when the rain stops..
5 litres of 5w40 fuchs titan supersyn
4 litres of 75w90 fuchs titan gearsyn
renault OEM oil filter
spark plugs
Also waiting on a group n upper gearbox mount to arrive. I...
was just about to say that mate, i'd like to think i'm fairly competant alright, have just changed my radiator, have fitted exhausts and coilovers to cars and would always service my own. is it a difficult procedure? and is the cambelt itself difficult to tackle if i was to take my time at it?
While changing my radiator the other day, i noticed my aux belt is frayed on the outer edge, furthest from the engine if you get me. The cambelt itself looks fine, and the writing printed on the belt is still intact which would suggest it is new enough. When I bought the car i had no history of...
Have been considering removing my air-con over the last week or so and looking for info as to what is needed.
Is it as simple as taking the compressor out and fitting a shorter aux belt? Or would i really need the cup alternator and bracket and cup PAS pipe? If so, why is that?

She's alive again!!!
Fitted the new aluminium rad, thermostat and coolant and she's running as sweet as ever again.
Payed for 3 months road tax and ordered a group n upper gearbox mount last night, so should be here within the week:cool:
Started trying to change my radiator this morning after my old one burst, and have run into difficulty..
I've gotten as far as bumper and grill off.
1. Whats the best way to go about emptying the coolant out of the system? I've got both under engine covers and bumper off, and can't get at the...

New radiator arrived today, looks to be fairly good quality for the 105 euro i paid for it, far better than the 350+vat renault ireland wanted:S
Should find time next week to fit it, along with a new thermostat and some fresh coolant.
Debating what to do next..
Order a set of...
Got a quote off renault ireland to supply and fit a radiator, and sent it into the NCT customer services along with my complaint for them to process it. They said I can go ahead and get it fixed in the meantime as they have the evidence they will require.
Quote from the nearest dealership to do...
