Ignore all this 182 business..10bhp doesn't make it that much of a better car plus al of newer cars can be in worse conditions than older ones anyway.....all depends on owners etc.
If it's a really good car I'd offer £6.500 for it....definately factor in the cambelt costs as it will need doing.
I agree....a lot of so called 'chavs' are builders, plasterers etc who we all know charge ludicrous prices per hour and choose to work whenever they want.
At the end of the day though you can never buy your way out of a culture/class hence why the above types go straight for the obvious...

Clio 172/182 may look dated but goes well and is cheap to run...still think insurance will keep a lot of scrotes out of the picture though.

Agree with you to some extant Baldylocks...the Golf was the first of it's 'breed' I suppose which does set it apart froma lot of other classics.
Classics become classics because a) they are good cars in the first place and b) because there are fewer around in good condition (like antiques) so are therefore more sought after.
Trophy is a 'limited' car so even if it's a tarted up 182 it'll still be desirable in the future as the numbers...
