I know it's reasonably boring, but I've done a week of quite eco driving.
Keeping it light on the throttle, not been crawling along, still do 70 on the motorway and 40(ish) in 40 zones etc.
It's averaged 35.3 MPG, which tbh, I'm really impressed by.
Loving the whole package tbh :D
Right, Bigg Red might have the kit in stock. Everyone cross their fingers.
Some pictures of the wheels in white primer, sprayed the other day:
In the meantime today, I got the base coat of silver on the wheels:
Both are listed as for a 1977 onwards car.
That said, they do look like the ones fitted to my car, suggesting that mine isn't the correct one for the car.
I'm already in talks with Bigg Red about a rebuild kit. Need to email them tonight with the name of the manufacturer of my original M/C (there were 2).
You might be right, I'll contact a couple of companies that I can think of, see what they say.
According to the forum, apparently not, but I am going to do some research into thread sizes and cylinder capacities.
If I can find one that's close in capacity, and has the same M10x1 fitting, and...
Sigh.
Brakes International have just called me to say the brake master cylinder rebuild kit that was supposed to be due in today, is actually no longer available.
So I now have to try and source one again.
I really have had enough of this now.
Gorgeous.
If I could afford, I would have.
I really don't have to time at the moment, the current ones are acceptable.
Over winter, I'll start thinking about oily bits and doing things like brake lines.
It's been 11 months since I last drove it, the fewer delays until the next time I drive...
I'm going to college soon to get my HNC in Civil Engineering.
I currently work in 2D and 3D, so hopefully I'm a bit ahead of the game with BIM.
Last place I had an interview for was very interested in my 3D knowledge, unfortunately my highways knowledge was too lacking (read: zero).
So, tonight I managed to remove the brake master cylinder and strip it down.
Circlip removed (it came off at about Mach 3 tbh, nearly took my eye out)
Pushrod removed:
First piston removed:
Second piston removed:
Rubber inlets and washers removed:
All stripped down and ready...
Yeah yeah I know, I just always thought it ended up looking a bit wider as a result.
Maybe down to the fact that all cars with rolled arches are lower with spacers.
Despite me saying that rolling arches is safe enough, because it is, when done correctly.
I'm not actually sure it would look good.
You not worried it might alter the classy look and feel of the car? I may be wrong, but rolled arches isn't the right look on this IMHO.
Believe it or not, the lines aren't as bad as they look in the pictures.
More than anything, they're filthy. None of the lines appear to be corroded, nor do the connections.
We think we might be able to hear a vacuum leak coming from one of the hoses that assist the boosters, we're not sure...
A few people on the E21 forum have had a go at swapping over to a more modern and readily available system, but it seems to be harder than it sounds.
Fingers crossed the rebuild kit will sort the issues out. If not, I'll look at the brake boosters. If it's not the brake boosters, then I'm all...
Do you know so much about it because you're a professional arch roller?
Or, did you f**k it up a couple of times and then decide it isn't possible under any circumstance, with any tool?
Have a search on Google, there's plenty of threads where people have done a good job.
So some updates.
Tonight was a mixed bag really, but in all it's left me feeling rather fed up with the car and the project as a whole, but more on that later.
The car itself is looking so good, it sits really nicely, and although the heights need a bit of tinkering with, I'm happy for now...
BOOM, brakes international do a service kit for the M/C for £36.
They also do a remote vacuum servo service kit, but it says it's not in stock, so there's no price. They also do replacement M/C's, but again, there's no price. I'll give them a ring and see what's what.
Progress is being made...
Yeah, Rob I think it's that M/C too.
They are the boosters, but I'm told there is a smaller M/C inside each of them, and that's what fails.
For now, I'll probably just order a repair kit for the main M/C.
The M/C's are housed in a "box" so you can't see any of them.
Same story with the boosters, they're just a big drum looking thing. I can take them apart, but the issue with that is it's a point of no return. Take them apart and I have got to put them back together. Before I do that, I want to...
I hate to sound so negative, but from those pictures, can you tell me which one of those 3 master cylinders is the correct one for my car?
I've narrowed it down to 2, and I'm pretty sure I know which one of those 2 it is.
Plus, they're the main M/C's, not the ones in the 2 boosters, which I...
That's the correct one for the main M/C, (it's not as that's for a 320/6, but they do do one for a 316) but that's not the hard bit, it's the booster rebuild kits that I can't seem to find.
