Re: Standard vs uprated brake pads
I've finally found a great article here:
http://www.fiestaturbo.com/articles/brakes/
From what I now understand, the term 'uprated' in this instance is a generic term that represents any kind of upgrade to any part of the braking system that deviates from the...

Also, would they be race legal?
They seem a really good price for a pair of great looking, premium badged harnesses. What's the catch?!
Some more clarification please!
For those suggesting using the upper seatbelt mounts, how would you do this with a 4 point harness (where does the 4th point go?)
If mounting to the lower belt mounts (against the advice of 1st post) or to a cage, are you supposed to criss-cross the straps or...
Yes, shop around. Its a pain but lots of searching usually results in a quote much lower than the rest. Check the details though unless like me you expect it would be more expensive to claim in the long run than buy a new car.
There are a lot of people in this position. If the car is lost, the...
Re: Standard vs uprated brake pads
Thanks. While I've been Googling brake pads, I've read that some brake pads should only be used for racing because they take time to warm up (a chemical reaction only occurs at higher speeds) and won't usually perform well under normal street conditions.
Are...
Re: Standard vs uprated brake pads
Thanks Fred. So, on the flipside, what are the disadvantages of uprated (that stops most people from buying them instead)?! Good grief, this is hard work.: (
Incredible post count btw, must be the highest?
Re: Standard vs uprated brake pads
I just notice that brakes are available in 'standard' or 'uprated', so simply want to know the adv/disadv of each, without opinion of whether anyone thinks they would be suitable for my car or not.
I'm sorry but why does everything have to become a tedious...
Re: Standard vs uprated brake pads
Sigh. Could someone please just sum up in a paragraph what uprated brakes are (or post an informative link from any reliable source) so I can make my own decision re. my car based on some substance. I appreciate the responses so far but there's sometimes too...
From the one article I've read, the cups were just £200 more at time of purchase and the majority went for it. Spend £1000s and £1000s on a car then get offered to 'upgrade to a more sporty version' for £200, what would you do?!
I'd say probably the first 1 - 3 times depending on the weather, then its absolutely fine. It doesn't happen if my Clios been in my garage overnight, so I think you've hit the nail on the head with surface rust. Can't see much rust visually tho and they seem to brake perfectly. In any case, the...
Hi ditz. Thats great info, thanks.
Can I ask if you've had any experience with pads and disks that don't look all that worn, aren't very corroded, but make a kind of grinding noise, only when its cold and wet, and only ever for the first few minutes of driving? I'm intrigued in case it happens...
I think mine might be the same. They seem to be working fine. They're rears which weren't changed all that long ago, and they only grind when its cold and wet, and only ever for the first 5 mins of driving.
But anyway, I'm replacing with a nice disks / pads set because the noise is annoying.
It turned out to be a waste of time, just full of thick, agressive, working-class mechanics who were more interested in their percieved self-importance than actually answering the question in a helpful way.
They pompously started complaining I was going to put everyones life at risk etc etc...
Any point upgrading to performance slotted brake disks if standard ones are okay?
Is the performance difference worth £100+ or is it better to spend money elsewhere on the car and wait until they need changing?
Well, my mk1 is fully modded and I'm not sure how many mods would be usable on, for example a Clio 1.8. Is the body exactly the same on a higher powered model so long as the mk and phase are the same? E.g. would I be able to easily fit my 1.2 exhaust on a 1.8.
I love my car, but want more power.
What engines could be fitted in a mk1 1.2L Clio?
How much work and component changes would be needed for each type of engine.
Thanks in advance.:star:
|Damn. Reminds me of when I applied the front brakes too quickly on my BMX when I was 7. Flew over the top going downhill - still have cracks on my front teeth where tghe previous milk teeth landed on the tarmak and pushed up into my developing ones. : (
Re: One standard, one well good. Put the well good brake system on front or back?!
I'd read that general info in detail already, but there wasn't enough for me to base my buying decisions / performance / safety on alone. Gettin' loads of helpful info here tho, thanks!
Thanks. That's really helpful info.
At the risk of further boring other readers, can anyone explain why the front brakes are more efficient at braking, out of interest?
Would the front brakes still be more efficient due to mechanics / physics, even if all wheels had the same hardware, or is...
