What were your reasons for going on the rollers? Presumably to see if you have a healthy engine, but you say the guy admits the graph is not representitive.
I can't see how that run was of any help to you, have you asked the guy for some kind of refund?
Seller probably expects the some other work needing doing to get through an MOT as well, as probably already gathered.
I would tread cautious and have a budget of an aditional £1k over what you are prepared to pay for the car - this for when you service + MOT it as it may need lots of things...
DOT4 and DOT5.1 spec fluids are interchangeable so either will be ok to use. Dot 5.1 is a higher specification regarding dry and wet (containing 3.7% water) boiling points.
In theory, a DOT5.1 will be better. But bear in mind that, as with any standardised specifications, manufacturers can make...
Unless you got new cup ones, swapping yours for some used shocks would still leave you with doubts I would have thought. I tend to agree that you would be hard to tell the differerence of a few % damping force.
Since you have sportlines on, you could hardly say that the springs are "matched" to...
Difficult choice. In your position I would not be replacing the engine but it depends how much you like the car really, its condition etc.
You may get a few hundred quid for the car as it is on ebay, clearly stating the broken engine diagnosis. Probably the easiest way to cut your losses in my...
Re: do you need to have your alligment looked at once you have had a track rod end fi
I don't pay to get alignment done as I can do the work myself, so it's probably wrong thing for me to say. But still - if there is only one joint replaced and the steering wheel position is exactly the same...
Re: do you need to have your alligment looked at once you have had a track rod end fi
I'd normally always want to re-check alignment after doing track rods. However, was the steering wheel straight beforehand and is is still straight now?
If you've only had one side done and the steering wheel...
rear wheels should have equal toe. This will make it track straight. If different to each other then it will have a steering affect called thrust angle
Like how you have made notes! I agree with you totally on your settings and effects of any changes.
Do you have any clues as to why it's out of alignment? I think your plan is sound but just make sure its not anything worn otherwise you'll just be masking a problem.
It's possible to use shims...
inner tie rods, rod ends or lower arm ball joints are common. For the steering rod joints I've found if you can get your fingers to the joint while a mate wiggles the wheel you will feel the play. The lower arm bottom ball joint is more robust and really needs a bar to lever it agaist something...
Good on you for taking the time to write it up :)
It's water that was dripping out the joint, not fuel. Your checks for leak-finding seem logical. I've done my cat gasket and fettled with the joint to the system and still have a very slight leak when warming up. Miles better than before though.
There is a common problem I think - a blow from between the manifold and the cat.
Mine developed a metalic/fizzy sound after I put my scorpion 192 on. I did temporarily fix it with a new gasket kit I got from Birchdown, however it seems to have returned and I can see the odd drip of water from...
I never said stick to the inside and you'll be flying, did I? FFS
You have your opinion, glad you found mine funny! You must know what I'm trying to say though?
To me, the whole idea of trail braking is not to slow down in a straight line and then at the last minute turn in, it's to ensure...
Did you get new pad carriers?
My experience is that they should be free but quite snug in a road car. For track they should definatley be free and even a little play as the expand with heat. It's up to you if you keep them, I got new metal carriers with my pads and so I used them but took a...
I only asked as some pads are sized so they only fit freely without them. No harm will come by trying without the metal bits - but seing as yours went in fine then it's prabably not the issue.
I think aftermarket ones might be different. I read that the renault specific ones were around et 43. I'v not got more info though, so hopefully someone with them will shout up
a different piston valve design?
Lots of advice given on your driving and I feel that is rather strange, glad you have taken it well! You must know what you want your car to do to go faster, surely? :approve:
Since it's become the topic can I give my opinion? I'm gonna go against the grain...

subaru impreza with Prodrive Performance Pack (like RB5's)
...All have the same tyre size as you. :rasp:
Put it on the front and then when the 3mm nero wears out, get two new of whatever you want and sell the rosso for £20 on ebay with 5mm tread remaining. Simples!
How do the brakes feel? Have they got a spongy feel and a lack of initial bite? There is still a possibility that there is play in the front suspension/steering if the brakes actually feel quite sharp, other than the vibration.
Frankly, I can't see how any mechanic would suggest the parts they...
