Top side i'd hazard a guess that the oil has been spilt when topping up, bottem suide usually means that you are leaking oil and burning oil, either that of the oil has seeped down round the threads of the plug
does it go slack when it comes back up, ie can you lift the pedal up, but it falls back down or does it stick donw there under tension sorta thing?
First problem, i'd say clutch release bearing, or cable getting caught somewhere.

Driveshaft bearing, i can only presume you mean wheel bearing, and bracket......hub maybe?
Or do you mean teh end of the driveshaft into the hub?

Its strong in its shape, like a can of spray paint, but when you drill it, you are gonna be prone to it leaking, and rusting.
And don't what ever you do drill the bottem of the sump, great idea sticking a sender unit and wires out the bottom of one of the lowest points on the car.

You need to egt a snadwich plate and connect it between the filter and block, and take the pressure feed off that.

Remove oil filler cap
Remove sump plug with bowl under it
Oil drains out
Once most has drianined out remove filter (good luck on a valver) - access can just about get a hand in from top, or access from bottem.
Fit new filter, do hand tight and smear new oil ont eh rubber seal
Refit sump...
