Will cost you under £15 for a new ball joint and a removal tool. If nothings seized it's do-able at home in under an hour. GSF sell the ball joint (renault won't supply it), it's a meg 2.0l coupe 1999/2000 part. I'll get you the part number tomorrow. After it's done you'll need tracking done.

Spend that on a Clio, end up with a fast hatch. That will eat boxes and you'll probably end up selling within 12 months. Spend a fraction of that on yourself and every car you ever own will be faster and more enjoyable.

The 182 is epic fun. A genuine great. The megs not bad, and has it's benefits (space, power, tunability) but is nowhere near as much 'fun'.

Difficult choice tbh. I can't see you in anything jap (ie 370z despite the noizzzze). Leaves the slk55 or the rs4. The amg is nice, but it's auto (not even smg!) and more flash than a porka. I love rs4's, very little about them that isn't spot on.

S3's a top car. Mate of mine has one, does everything well. Find one with the RS4 seats, and it's the perfect quick prestige hatch.
