    15" or 16" wheels on a 182 Cup?

I'm currently thinking of going for some cheap 15s on my 172 cup. In theory handling could be improved by reduced wheel/tyre weight, particularly as the weight is rotating. But, assuming the same type of tyres and same pressures you will have a slightly smaller contact patch so this improvement...

    DS2500/Pagid Blue

    1. Don't the pagids turn your wheels a funny colour though? 2. How does cold bite for either compare to standard pads - is it similar or "slightly worrying at first but OK once you're used to it"?

    DS2500/Pagid Blue

I need track pads for the front of my car and will probably go for DS2500 or Pagid blue. I use the car every day for a 40 mile commute so I have 2 questions: 1. grip from cold? 2. noise/squeals? The car is a 172 Cup running standard spec Brembo discs and braided hoses with 5.1. fluid...

tyre choice proxes or eagle f1's? quick answers please

I started with F1s on my Cup but switched to Proxes. I do a fair few track days - although the F1s are great on the road they melt (literally) on track. Proxes aren't as grippy but I haven't had any problems, they last well and they're cheap. Take your pick. Cheers Tom.

    Attention MarkCup

Thanks - I'm looking for cheap trackday wheels so appearance is not much of an issue, but I am slightly colour-sensitive!

    Attention MarkCup

Didn't you have some evil-looking orange track day rims a little while back? What were they? I need something similar to fit my 172 Cup. Cheers Tom.

    dodgy driveshafts???

Who performed this miracle cure? What was it? How much was it? More input!!!

    dodgy driveshafts???

Thanks SBV - that could be it as the driveshafts seem otherwise ok and the cv boots etc are intact. Anybody got any more info on this?

    Lighter flywheels

Errr - I don't know much about this but thought that losing 1kg from the flywheel or other rotating parts like wheels is equivalent to losing approx 10kg of fixed weight in terms of acceleration, which is exactly the reason racers are so keen on that kind of thing. Doesn't affect outright power...

    dodgy driveshafts???

Cheers Jim - I'll take a look in the morning. What did it cost to fix?

    dodgy driveshafts???

the wheels do spin but it's accompanied by the unexpected nasty noise. Still goes fine, so I won't do anything about it yet.

    172 Cup or 182 Cup?

Pah! Gee - stop being so reasonable! That's not what forums are for.

    172 Cup or 182 Cup?

No idea about a 182 Cup, but I use my 172 Cup for a 40 mile daily commute and approx one track day per month and it does the job perfectly. Quick, ride not too firm, cheap on fuel and cheap to run on track. All the same is probably true of a 182 Cup but it wouldn't be as cheap to buy and won't...

    dodgy driveshafts???

If I floor my cup away from a junction i expect wheelspin but get a noise that sounds like driveshafts slipping on their splines. Is this possible/likely, or is it something else knocking under vibration or something? The car still accelerates strongly so it can't be that bad yet whatever it is...

    Servicing near Loughborough?

I'm out the other side from you - in Quorn at the moment but moving to the forest side of Lboro soon. Only moved back a few weeks ago so you might not have seen it around yet. Silver Cup - say hello if you see it! Cheers Tom.

    Servicing near Loughborough?

OK - my 172 Cup needs a 36,000 mile service next month (auxilliary belt etc). I'm based in Loughborough so there's a main dealer nearby, but I'd rather go to a decent independent specialist if I can. Any recommendations, and what should it cost? Cheers Tom.

    Brake compensator...

Cheers Fellas - it kind of reinforces my opinions of dealers. I know the front pads and discs are fine but the rears are totally shot so I couldn't believe it when they got that completely wrong on their '25 point inspection'. The rear pads are practically down to the metal on scored discs...

    Brake compensator...

Hmmm. It's a 53 plate silver 172 Cup (and yes, it is a proper one not some sort of fake!) The same report also said the front discs and pads were 'worn to excess' (even though they are only 2 months old) but didn't say anything about the rear pads and discs (which are completely knackered)...

    Brake compensator...

....apparently mine's seized & the connecting rod is missing from the axle. So what is it, what does it do and how easy or difficult is it to fix? Cheers Tom

    172 Exhaust & Service Questions

Doh! - it's a 53, but it was made in 2003 - just getting myself confused. It rattles and squeaks so much it feels like a 1983, but that's another story.

    172 Exhaust & Service Questions

I've got an '03 Cup and the exhaust snapped off just in front of the back box this weekend. The car's just under 3 years old and 35k miles, so my local dealer is replacing the back end of the system under the manufacturers warranty. I was a bit surprised by that (to say the least), but it...

    Donny exhaust mayhem...

One more thing - the car's less than 3 years old and has done 35k miles. Any chance of getting it replaced under warranty? (well, I might as well ask - they can only say no!)

    Donny exhaust mayhem...

A great day at Donington today was spoilt slightly by my exhaust falling off half way down Craner Curves! So, I need a replacement exhaust (probably from the cat back) for a Cup 172. If possible I'd like to improve the breathing but I'm not looking for anything gnarly - it's got to sound...

Cheers everyone! I'll be giving it a go soon. Sounds easy - tempting fate....

    Rear seats - aaarggh!

OK, Cup 172 - easy to get the rear seat base out, but what about the seat backrest thingy? I've searched and there's guides on how to do it for normal clios with a 60/40 split, but the Cup just has the cruddy one piece backrest. How do you get it out of the car? Cheers Tom

    15" wheels on a 172 Cup?

Thanks Steve/Edde. Good news. Steve - your wheels look far too nice for what I'm after, but thanks for the offer. Your avatar would probably put me off buying them anyway! The price looks good to me, so I'm sure they won't take long to sell. Cheers Tom.

    15" wheels on a 172 Cup?

The turinis on my Cup are great, but I'm going to be on track a fair bit and 16" tyres are much more expensive than 15". Will the 15" wheels from a Ph1 172 or some other similar wheels fit on my Cup? If they do then I'll be looking to buy some second hand - anyone got some for sale? Ta...
