no, youre not expecting too much BB. I recently put a post up here saying that the 205GTi and, to a lesser extent, the Golf GTi, were so fundamentally right in the stop, steer, go department that it will be very difficult to better their dynamics and, more importantly, their feel. Apart from...

Ive been thinking about the C172s handling for sometime now as I too couldnt quite understand why the magazines praised it so highly. I think there are some things to bear in mind.
- fundamentally, it has high levels of cornering ability
- if it ever feels nervous, twitchy or sensitive, it...

heres my boring top tip that will alleviate guilt about paying for a depreciating asset. If you can, early on in life, start the really boring stuff first. Thats the pension, and the saving plan for a mortgage deposit. Its achingly tedious to do this when youre 23 I know, but then, a few years...

hi Ben, it may have been that the small engined ones had skinny tyres and maybe they were .26cd (making it the lowest cd of any mass produced car) and the bigger engined ones were .31cd, making it the lowest cd for a coupe? If only my memory was as good as it used to be! :)

hmm, coulda sworn it was .26, but hey, whats a few cd between mates!
didnt the Calibra get into the Guiness Book of Records for having a low CD? But then that cant be right either because the 1982 Audi 100 already had a CD of .30. Ah, whatever; Im well confused now! :)
g
what car are you refering to there, Valva?
If its the Calibra, then I cant think of any mass produced car that had a Cd of less than .26. And the Astra...yeah, the GTE was aerodynamic...but then bear in mind its class comprised boxes that included the Escort and the Golf! :)
g
when they put their minds to it, they can be quite smart those Italians! (i say that speaking as a half italian!) :)
Funny innit - in the 80s, all the car manufacturers were banging on about cd figures (remember the 1982 Audi 100?) These days, you never see it mentioned or refered to in...
can you ask them how many Vel-Satis and Avantimes they have sold. Ask them if they are on sales target, whats the buyer profile and what cars are being traded in against the Vel-Sat and the Avant?

and did you know that brick-shaped Alfa saloon thats in the Italian job (the police cars), was as aerodynamic in the 1960s as the Sierra was in the 80s? (the Alfas CD was .30, and, twenty years later, so was the Sierras. Not bad eh?)

Thanks for your responses guys. Just out of interest, i checked the handbook yesterday and it makes no reference to the it acting as a warning, but as GR says, thats probably what it is. Puppy: Arrrrrrr, cute, cuddly and caring, too. :)

chaps,
when I started the car this morning, the ext temp gauge said it was 3degress. Oddly, the degree symbol started flashing (not the 3, just the symbol). Ive never noticed this before. Then when I got to work, it was at 4degrees, but the flashing had stopped.
Is this normal? Does it act...

could it not be the cold start cycle issue? i.e. when you start the car, it starts on the enriched cold start. then you turn it off, then on and it tries to overlay another enriched cold start onto and already enriched engine...and doesnt fire (flooded?). Im probably wrong, but this is something...

hey, of course you can chill in a c172, but you can also blast hard in a c172. the Spiders more suited to chillin than outright blasting. i guess that was the point i wanted to make.
