Did yours do it all the time mate or only once the engine had warmed up a bit? Mine sounds fine when the car is completely cold ie its not moved for a few days

Lol I'd give anything for 5 degrees right now! I used to get this on my old mondeo and was lead to believe that if the engine stood for a day or two then the lifters would drain, then they would fill back up when you started the engine but they would tap for a second or two then clear...

Well my 172 is making the dreaded noisy diesel sound. My first thoughts were obviously dephaser pulley but after reading up on here I'm not so sure now. is it possible that a lifter has gone? The annoying 'tick' is there throughout the Rev range, whereas am I right in thinking with the dephaser...

Just about to change the oil on my 172 and wondered should I flush the engine inbetween oils? Also think I got a noisy lifter so is it worth putting some of that sticky lifter treatment stuff in? Cheers peeps
