Quick blast out lastnight.
Had a bit of fun with a Kawasaki bike. Lad was holding me up and wound the throttle on to see me off, obviously not full send as i know how fast bikes are, but he did look at me with the wtf is in that as i kept the pace
Thanks for reading!!
Mot passed.
12 miles last year, embarassing
Done a few miles on way to mot station to rinse the old fuel. Stuck some fresh fuel in and took the long way back home giving it a couple of decent pulls. I can officially say the high rpm gearchange problem it had is fully resolved and you...
Before chucking any more parts at it, id get some diagnostics done with can clip. Id start by looking at the lambda and map sensor data.
Might even be an injector on its way, mine used to stutter a bit then injector failed.
Random one but need a bit of reassurance.
Filled up the Trophys gearbox with elf nfx - first time ive used it and noted no cats piss smell like the old nfp/nfj. Im used to the smell of gear oil absolutely assaulting my nostrils but it hardly smelt of anything.
Is this normal or is It...
Updates.
Mrs drove the kangoo to Croft on Good Friday as support vehicle for the r26 with spare wheels in and tools.
Doing van things.
Its not moved since as been busy with the Trophy. Had a bit of spare time today so give it a clean.
Wheels needed a bit of tlc,Bh autowheel gets them clean...
Finished off last few jobs on the Trophy on Sunday morning and test driven a few laps of the block.
All went well, new clutch is quite snappy but a decent improvement over the old helix/less of a knee breaker. Gear change is improved too much better than last setup, shift feels quite positive...
Sat update.
Started with changing the lower wishbones. Whipped them off and the powerflex bushes were in a lot worse condition than expected.
Fcuked
This beauty was not visible until removed as hidden behind the reinforcing plate on the subframe.
Pretty bad, the thin outer casing on the...
A few more pics that might be of interest.
The older purple powerflex bushes and damaged casing/spot welds broken.
New lower arms with newer style Powerflex black bushes that have a shoulder to stop movement/washers to keep them tight.
NDO gearbox in situ, knacker tight. The gap between...
Its a right carry on to be fair. Clean and prep and then get it on fast and panic if applying outside if it clouds over as rain ruins it before it goes off
The wipes need the same prep - apc scrub etc but the finish is fully cured in an hr. I done my front composite door on my house due...
Updates.
Had a few hours on it this week. Progress pretty slow but moving.
N/s roll correction spherical bearing replaced due to a little bit of play.
Intercooler given a quick coat of vht. The intercooler is genuine garrett bar and plate core rated to 500hp. Works surprisingly well.
Back in...
The cam lock is adequate to hold the pulleys whilst loosening. Id go tighter on the toothed wheels than 80nm, try 100nm to avoid them moving. As engine is out you have tons of room, i would use impact gun on pulley nuts to save the engine rocking.
Impact gun on crank pulley..they fly off with a...
Looks spot on mate. C5 is decent stuff and usually lasts.
If it doesnt last too long try the ceracote trim wipes. They are awesome, ive done my kangoo with them and the finish/durability is next level.
Try a more friendly mot tester, im sure you could have working pas then it gets removed 1min after the test. If not bang an epas column on it and move on.
Reminds me of presenting my extra van for an mot years ago at local garage, previously diesel and declared petrol/r5gtt carburettor engine...
Can turn esp/asr off on the switch on the r26, i always have it switched off on track. Asr on these is very intrusive and its braking all the time when lively.
The brembo rear pads that it had in (ecp specials by looks of it) did 3x track days and seemed to last so thought id get a day out of a...
Bang on the money mate, 197 exactly the same. Ive went for solid/snr rear discs, found a pair new for £180 so not too bad.
Drilled can get in the bin. Not a fan of drilled but was getting my moneys worth out of them, about the only part ive not had to replace on it
With this done i give it a clean. It had metal filings all over the n/s rear wheel, arch and bumper. Korossol soon got rid of that.
Fallout
On comps/road tyres again.
Also give the technomagnesio track wheels a good clean, they had not been done properly since before Spa and had metal all...
A few pics from Croft by RBPS.
Lifting a wheel at Hawthorne on drivers rear, full throttle in 3rd gear.
Give it a post trackday checkup on Sat. Everything ok apart from Brakes..fcuked. Front discs quite badly cracked, with some almost at the edge of the disc so in the bin. Front ds1.11 pads...
Looks spot on John, its held out great considering a few years since the refresh.
Keep an eye on coolant temps with new rad on as the core is a different design to oem. I have tried similar new style core on my meg and it was getting hot as fcuk so changed back to used oem and its been fine since.
Updates.
Another 5 hours today, the small bits take ages to bolt on.
Turbo and wastegates refitted and exhaust which is a royal pain in the arse to do even though its on vbands as it goes above the subframe instead of under. Routed heater hoses, oil lines to turbo.
It gets busy once the turbo...
Cheers mate. Its megane based engine and box (250 block/197 head).
T.trophy was the username of the previous owner (Haswell). He done the legwork on the meg conversion around 2012 iirc so probably one of the first 6 speed conversions.
I got it in 2020 in a million pieces, no wiring etc. I had...
Smoke testing boost circuit for leaks, setting actuator and various other bits on my mates mk3 gsi turbo. Road tested and it goes pretty well. Do like the c20let.
