old thread, same prob for me ;
I bought the "stretchy" universal boots to replace the oem ones.
the CV-joint needs cleaning , can this be done using brake-cleaner or is/will this be too harsch a method ? How to clean ?
Forget the smoothening of the square...
V6 box mounted like this; i've tried a lot of things down the induction route but this is a winner!! costs were a laugh too
^^ i misread/misunderstood..:(
How did you "fix" your cv joints ? I was thinking these could be fixed without having to buy the whole shaft from Renault.. just now i realised the Ford part you got was only the boot/rubber !
I just got myself some universal ones.. nothing special about...
Yeah, price blew me away last week too. The shaft will be complete with CV (CV cannot be ordered separately) , so you'll be a goodun the next 1,5 years ;)
(RS reputation; eating+ spitting out driveshafts)
Beside the weight ; one more belt ALWAYS running along (even when disengaged) = loss.
yep.
Also; if you live in the South of France, or Italy where these cars are sold frequently , i can understand the NEED for airco. C'mon, up here ??
wait a minute.. money is no object hmm
Then you shall have the best :
Genuine Group N mounts, costing around 1100 pounds all round. I will envy you

good Question !
The 172 supposably has a HUGE amount of cooling fluid running round , therefore not so sensitive to quick overheat at stoplights/traffic.
I was wondering the same once because i have NEVER had my rad-vent come on at the lights/ in traffic
okay, a brand name to go by. I'll see about the availability over here.
I was thinking about a grade of some kind; like a 85w90 oil for gearboxes / 5W40 for the engine .
Cheers
Yep i was also told the bearings are prone to high wearing .. will feel nice and solid while they're okay though. I would'nt touch them on a daily driver
as above please :) ?
Any typenumbers or just go to the autoshop and order CV-grease ? I was once visiting a guy here who runs two Cup racers and he was telling me about some kind of SUPERDUPER grease they use ? (as they're s**t got too hot frequently eating up shafts/cv's)
haha , no i'm...
There are 300 left hand driven "172Cups" driving around Europe; signend by the Legend Jean Ragnotti ; in the gloveboxcompartiment. Only difference to the Cup (obviously) is the left hand drive, signature, and the rear- windshieldwiper also not being there ! (for weightloss purposes )...
Mine's been whining since a couple of months, when on full throttle. Have'nt really trusted my gearbox these times. The last days some tick tick-ticking on full lock steering (in gear that is ) Seems to be driveshafts.. In 70K they have/will have been renewed twice !
They...
got a Porsche sitting there on the bridge in pic 3 ?
Nice job with the exhaust. Did you think about the first flange , before cat ? That one seems also to be a smaller diameter
