don't hold me to it but think it's a yellow relay if it's the main relay? the odd name rings a bell, check the connections where it plugs in and then check continuity on the wiring to the ecu etc.
think i could be getting colours mixed up with a saab i did last year??
dodgy injector can give you a low compression reading, get a leakdown test done and check the injectors.
what did the garage say about the management light being on?
you can't get a 182 through mot without a cat full stop, you need lambda reading and a cat needs to be fitted regardless of it actually working or not. your mate got a dodgy mot;)
if you can't get hold of a seal puller try a decent sized flat blade screwdriver between the lip of the outer and the inner face on the cam cover and twist gently. the outer is only thin and should come out easily enough.
have you got the spring out of the seal?
