they mean engine AND box out the top starter motor is EASY to get to, 3 x 13mm bolts (sometimes they have 16mm IIRC, depends what was is the parts bin) it stays in place anyway, just unbolt it from the box and slide it back a bit

the special tool from renault to apply the sealer (and i'm not joking here) is a plastic tray and a foam paint roller, same as what you can buy in B&Q!!

you're supposed to check for oil leaks yada yada yada, but if engine covers are in place then you can't check, therefore its a pass, technically the tester in this case is correct but he's also being very anal!
