Depends what you do with it stock is fine for normalish power you only need to work on it if your going to amke it rev and the more you let it rev the more you need to spend to make it relaible. DIY it the cost of getting someone to do it for you would be huge.

If you get a 172 kit etc you'll only be aiming to make a 1.6 powered 172 looker.. Why not save the insurance etc hastle and buy one the price will be about the same only difference is that you'll have 172 brakes suspension etc.
