You should be ok with a cup o/s shaft Tony. The length increase would be covered by the slightly wider track width from the hubs, as would a 2 piece setup from a ph2.
I've seen a few where the bolts that secure the plate have come out or the head has snapped off and destroyed the box. They're potentially an installation issue though.
I've got on. You should also use the pinion as well though as they're a matched pair. I've got the lot though stripped down. Pm me if your interested. Postage wouldn't be cheap though due to weight. They certainly ain't light!

Ah right. All I'd do is stuff some rag in the box and cover it in grease to catch the swarf. Loctite the bolts in and check what they are in terms of rating. I've seen some snap and some come loose and go in the box. The end result is the same - fucked gearbox.
