My 172 is coming up to its' 48k service and I am going to have the cambelt changed early along with the auxilary belt which I have postponed by 12k.
A friend will also needs his doing shortly so we already have two people interested.
If I were to arrange a group buy on this in the Yorkshire...
Well congrats' matey. As said, good little cars for what they are. It wouldn't be my choice but then a Clio isn't the epitome of style.
I don't know what Speedline will have to say about Enkei copying the Turini LOL. I knew they wouldn't be Turinis', just jesting.
You won't get a fantastic gain from a cat' back but you will most probably need to change it anyway as the original will kill itself at some point. Inlet match is the best value mod'.
In my opinion, a set of nice sensible mods' would be:
inlet match,
cat' back,
panel filter with CAF (with...
IMO, you would be better off buying a late 172 and saving the rest of the cash. The 182 does have an improved exhaust manifold but this will only yield 3-4 bhp. In reality, the inlet manifold castings were improved on the 182 which gave gains over earlier castings.
Fit a matched manifold...
Fair do's Rob, understandable. For the £50 notes he asking, who cares if it lasts 6 months. I'd look at modding the rear mount when you fit the new box and ensuring the middle mount isn't shot just to give it a fighting chance.
Then it's straight through scaffold pole time once your renewal...
If you fit a stealth why not play the ignorance card. As long as it doesn't sound daft and stick out like a bean tin you should be OK. Not the P.C. thing to do but hey ho.
I would say so as I don't think they varied.
Not sure how long it would last though as they normally snap around the inlet into the back box as they weigh too much for a standard mount.
Stainless may be better in the long run.
If I were to fit 7mm spacers to my 172, I would have 13mm of thread still protruding into the hub. Would those in the know say that this is acceptable?

You are better off boxing up the 2nd lambda and taping it out of the way. If you fit both, you will most probably activate the emissions light.
As for fitment, it is not a nice job. You need someone hanging over the back of the engine holding a long 10mm socket onto the bolts with someone...
You should be fine then mate. Keep it dry and have a look ASAP. You would have soon known there was an issue as the grease began depositing itself down the side of the car.
Dependant on how long it has been spilling its grease, you may well get away with re-greasing and re-sealing/fitting a new boot and leaving it at that. It's alway worth giving that a go before full replacement due to the costs involved ie. new CV is muchos dinero, new boot and grease is peanuts.
It could have popped off if you gave it a good whack.
You need to be looking for a split anywhere around the circumference of the boot but, as Brian said, it would need to be seriously split to spill that much grease.
My money is on the fact that it has popped off. Even more likely if your...
^^^Possibly, possibly not. It would depend on the angle at which you hit it.
My CV had a habit of popping every couple of hundered miles and spilling its' insides all over the shocker, caliper and wheel. When secured properly using a proper tie I had no further issues.
Don't try a cheap tie...
Ditto. I needed braided hoses but couldn't wait for the group buy to come to fruition. David did me a cracking price that couldn't be matched and with top service as well.
Nothing standard about the bolts, they have a domed collar to allow them to rotate and are only have around 20mm of thread to preventing over compression of the springs.
