acceleration shouldnt be a problem with a 172 lump in a mk1 :D gears 1-3 are good acceleration anyway (30 65 95 @ 7000rpm iirc?), only 4th and 5th are longer (140 and 170ish geared). It's a personal preference really - I just get on better with these ratios :) - I find myself constantly...

bonnet seems to shut :S though dunno what it will be like with engine movement etc... and no, im keeping my exhaust like it was before: half the size of yours ;)

bought a loom - the guy at the breakers was convinced it didn't have the UCH - only one connector (white) bought that on monday, would be nice to have it tomorrow - will spend a few hours hacking it up and hopefully getting the engine to turn over I may have to bug you loads at that point :D

havn't checked numbers, unless joshy can provide them? all the parts do look new though, so would seem odd to replace the engine cheers :) I have his home address - his mother has got involved when she said she'd take responsibility for parts/reciepts. So i'll try that route if he doesnt...

I agree Darren, and he's more than welcome to come and defend himself Doubt it though, with all the other stories coming out now! (lots on other forums) - it doesn't seem like this is a one off!

I think it's the latter too I've not heard of anyone having to send off reciepts to the tax man (not your accountant) for buying parts (which he's not selling on to me, he's only selling the labour) less than a month ago. It simply does not happen.

best way I too do jobs on the side (the occasional gearbox, stripping cars etc...) but know when to take a job and when not to!

The only proof I have of engine work is what I can see - all new belts and gaskets and water pump etc.. tbh, I do think he has done the work (hopefully to a good standard!!) but he's just tried to pull one over on the parts I wouldnt mind if we had agreed on something, it's just annoying to...

the interior loom is going to be standard mk1 stuff as for 'pretty much everything', does that include sensors on the engine loom?
