Teady - Yeah, 15.08 is a really good time for a MK2 172 from what Ive seen. Less than a 1/10th seconds off the best Ive seen a Cup manage. Sound like you have one of the "good" ones! Lucky git.
Rob - I think people mean slow in relation to other 172s or slow compared to how they should be. Still ran a couple of 15.6s in my "slow" 172 at York last year, still had 140 odd top speed and still hit 60 in about 7.2 seconds.....just should be a bit quicker for what it is supposed to be...
Mike - sold it because I needed the money at the time. Still regret it from time to time, but I reckon the Willy is faster (with the de-cat) so getting over it now. I actually stripped out the interior and lowered it and it was great fun and I loved it to bits, but it didnt have 172bhp!!!

I ran mine in carefully and it wasnt earth shatteringly quick. It got 136bhp on the same day as Paddy got 152bhp in his MK2 and he thrashed his from day one. If the transmission loss is around 15%, then that means mine was actually a Clio 156 and Paddys was a Clio 174. Quite a difference!
MK2 172 vs Willy 2.

Willy had adams_16v Craig (if I remember right) as the passenger who was filming....

Paddy - I think theyll give you a calculated flywheel figure at John Nobles which they didnt do at RE....provided you get 172bhp or over at the fly youll know youve got a goodun (although we know that regardless of what BHP youve got I suppose!)
Rhys
Paddy - have a look at those DV2 things on e-bay. Not full blown digital camcorders, but good enough for this sort of thing and much cheaper. (Just type DV2 into the ebay search thing).

My Williams will hit 60mph in 7 seconds dead, and Im pretty much even with Craggys VTS on the flat until 90/100. Conclusion has to be that the VTS can hit 60 in about the same time as the Willy and that time is around about 7 seconds...
However, I must say that I did seem to have a noticable...
Renwill - please tell me Ive misunderstood your post - the difference between Willy & VTS is not the same as the difference between a Cossie and a Micra. Please!!! If you really think that you are dreaming!
Wasnt really pushing it as far as sliding to be honest. Just had a bit of a whoopsie where I put my foot down too early when going round a corner as I had slowed too much before it.
The Williams just seems totally balanced when going round corners. Doesnt understeer and doesnt oversteer...
I know the roads we were on very well and (touching a gigantic piece of wood) have never crashed a car in 9 years of driving. Famous last words....bet Ill write the Willy off as soon as I next get behind the wheel now Ive said that!!!
Oi! I only lost it a little bit and just the one time. The car just squirmed around a little bit. I wasnt the one who made my entrance into Hathersage sideways ;). Just wish the Williams had better headlights and I was having to slow to a crawl for corners. Think the most I left the VTS by was...
I had an R reg Corsa 1.2 for a few months. Timed 0-60 on a stopwatch at 17.8 seconds! You should MURDER them in a 1.2 16v!
The owners manual said it had a whopping 33bhp...
