teady - Ive been looking at RPMs video in a video editor and taking the time from the first frame of the video to where the shadow of the needle crosses the 160kmph the time is 15.044. If I move it forwards to where the actual needle appears to be pointing to the 160kmph mark, it is 16.407...
172Man - I fully acknowledge the inaccuracies involved. I do find it slightly amusing that you are fully willing to believe that RPMs 172 reaches 100 in 14 seconds by using the same method of timing, but take the opposite view of this test:o....:p
Only managed to get 30 - 70 runs last night. Going to try the 40 - 100 later...
Pre-chip (from previous speedo vids):
30 - 70 2nd & 3rd, temps between 2c and 8c = 6.44 secs average
30 - 70 2nd & 3rd, temp 6c, 3/4 tank of cheapo Morrisons petrol = 5.56 secs average
Ive not got any clips...
Ben j - dont take part then. If everything up to Rolling Roads are never ever accepted as accurate, then what harm in doing this?!
Im videoing my runs with my sh*tty digital camera blu-takd to the dash so I can time them afterwards....
Mine backfires when the car has just had a damn good thrashing in 3rd gear. If I take it to the end of 3rd and then let the car slow down in gear, every now and then I get a pop and a spurt of flame!
Does the Cup hit 60 in 2nd gear without the rev limiter increase? Ive just had about 0.4 seconds wiped off my 0-60 time (as best I can tell) by fitting the Hillpower chip....but its a cheat because it now does 60 in 2nd gear....no 2nd gear change to get to 60 means quicker 0-60 time! Hee hee!
Cheers Jas, that sounds a pretty reasonable price. The rust just seems to be sandwiched between the paint and the rear wing hence why I want it sorted as soon as possible!
Rhys
I also believe Frosty. With just 1 person in the car, a lightish fuel load and with the temperature not too high, I can well believe that a chipped cup could break 6 seconds (or at least get very close to it).
Im well aware that Rob knows everything there is to be known, but does a lotus Elise...
The driver side rear wing has some bubbling under the paint and a bit of rust that has broken through the paint. I obviously want to sort this out asap, but i cant afford to have the whole panel taken off and re-sprayed. A friend reckons it is a small enough are to have re-painted and blended...
Ive got one fitted at the moment which I have to give back to Craggy soon. As soon as I do Im going to go and get Hillpower to do one for my car. I think Nick Hill is a reasonable kind of bloke and if you have any problems such as running lean, hell take a look at it for you....
Rhys
matt - the Willy handling is quite a revelation. Its the best handling car Ive ever owned. Not for a second suggesting that the 172 is anything other than very good indeed, but the Willy responds to my ham fisted attempts at driving sooooo well.
I cant tell whether or not the Willy is quicker...
RPM - dont worry, I dont think you are affected with you 14 seconds to the ton 172 ;-)
Ben - Possible, but more likely a gammy engine, I reckon. Who cares, its gone now. Ill insist on a RR print out from a reliable RR centre before buying a 172 again. Anyway, the Willy might not (quite) have...
The car will feel really nimble and it gets moving quicker. Its also MUCH louder without the seats and parcel shelf. You can hear this great whooshing noise when you floor it. Its cool.
The rear seats and backrest weigh about 20kg in total. Ditch the spare and thats 40kg and a noticeable...
Ben - Sorry, but if I was losing 18bhp by the time the power got to the wheels compared to Paddys car, then Id say there was still something seriously wrong. That car was not up to power and not as powerful/quick as other standard MK2 172s. So there. :p
Yeah, not conclusive, but food for thought. Its a modern car, it has 3 year warrenty....will you have it after 3 years? Probably not.....thrash the little fecker and if it breaks get Renault to give you a new one.
Rhys
Griff - dont know if you saw me mention it in another post, but I got 136 bhp @tw on the same day/rollers as Paddy when he got 152. He thrashed his from new, I ran it in by the book. Speaks for itself I think!
