Are you refering to the pollen filter?
If so then yes its easy to take out. It should be REPLACED not cleanedand replace it.

I get all my stuff from Renault. Its not as expensive as you might think. Give them a bell and and ask for prices for Air filter, pollen filter (if applicable) and oil filter. You could also try GSF. Theyre pretty competitive.

Do you have an aftermarket radio fitted? As suggested by Steve id get the battery checked for discharge as well as having the alternator/voltage regulator checked.
Is it possible you got a duff battery? Might be worth getting that checked/replaced under warranty as well
I had to have mine done (luckily at cambelt change time) at Birchdown. Think it cost circa £550 inc dephaser pulley, belts, pulleys etc.
Shop around the independents/specialists and see what they come back with mate.
