Re: James/BigAsh 182 Race Car by TDF... It doesn't get much better than this! *Pic He
smash the bonnet in where there space with a hammer and then fit a dirty great bonnet scoop.......take that silhouette rule, kapow!
I'm sure i'm going to love the reliability of the 182, looking forward to getting it on the road and the current 172 has behaved very well over last 2 years
the turbo however is the same issue as above, sooooooo addictive when it runs but 15k in nearly 6 years and still monstered 13...
Tim. - it is wonky, blame Luke for the rush job slapping them on when he took his personal plate off ;) its on the list of to do's as I think i'm going to get some new plates anyway :)
Akay - I have used L.W Smart in Alfreton for my bodywork, they were based in Alfreton but had a nasty fire...
not keen on the rims, turinis would look spot on ;)
car looks clean and pretty sure those reclining sparcos are the ones I have in my mk1, pretty comfy seats but not particularly good at holding me in place!lol!
I would definitely make a plan to powdercoat the whole front suspension/subframe assembly chap if you want it mint come summer next year, mines still ditched from that escapade but I've kind of drifted from the keep it mint to the track the hell out of it and see what goes pop! lol!
Re: Tim's R26 Banana Boost Bus
i'd recomp test it a few times to be sure, and do a leakdown to check rings before making a decision.
if bottom end is healthy, as Whiteley says, slap a second hand turbo on it for cheap option or hybrid it.
tidy phase 1 chap
i'd stick to light track setup, so along the lines your on now and perhaps some fully reversible stripping, so rear seats/spare wheel etc etc, all stuff you can replace to not ruin a solid phase 1 :)
I took the turbo to the ace café one winter, it snowed on way home and obviously salt all over. this was the only run out in winter I have ever done in it and I joke not when I say all my freshly painted subframe/wishbones/driveshafts etc etc got absolutely ruined...............thankfully it was...
its usually 4x4 drivers round here trying to go too quick and loosing it, overconfidence and isolation from the road are the main problems.
I used to have a mk3 polo on 145 tyres, that was epic in the snow! the Clio's, not so much, but as above if you take it easy and don't put yourself in a...
Renault have always been guilty of throwing whatever was lying about left over from the ending run onto the new cars or the new run onto the final few old cars, the mk1's are the same hotch potch at crossover time between phases
its not really a fail, its just the tester not wanting his name on the mot if he thinks you may get pulled for noisey exhaust by VOSA so he opts out, its happened to me before.
when you think of all the motorbikes screaming about with pieces of scaffolding on it does make you wonder why...
unfortunately not mate no, I intend to get a set of original rims and the spare for a set of 5 for if and when I ever sell the car.
well unless the price is right of course, but I warn you quite often I have to have wheels prised from my cold dead fingers, I have something of an issue with...
its not for sale yet, I think i'll run it for a bit to enjoy the noise, then when it starts to grate people can form and orderly queue ;) lol!
cheers for the comments everyone.
I like parts of both, and none of this mix matching either, just pure phase 1 or pure 182 for me, only phase 2 172 i'd have is a cup, don't like the standard trim ones at all.
having said that if I could put the cable throttle onto the 182 i'd be happy, that's the main difference in feel...
the early phase 2's had a sensor in the gearbox where the speedo cable goes, just like the phase 1 cars, later models had a gearbox with no speedo drive and used ABS for speedo
you need a box with a speedo drive it sound like, so phase 1 or early phase 2 172 box. get it confirmed first...
pretty sure the spare wont be staying in there folks, it was just in there to collect the car, or maybe Luke kept it there?? not sure
either way it will find its way to the shed probably, i'm too tight to be paying the fuel to lug excess weight about ;)
if the car has a standard stereo the money will be better spent on new front speakers, adding rear speakers if they aren't there and a decent head unit :)
Cheers folks :)
Boot tray is fine, bumps a bit over big bumps but no rattles as such.
I find the Ktec's very smooth tbh for coilies, goes round corners okay but handles the rough UK roads no danger, good bang for your buck for comfy get low road use imo
Ash - knowsit, the proper clio...
