couple of quickies about my phase 1 172
spark plugs probably been covered a million times, hence a nightmare to search or in the search tab! but is it really a £60 parts job?!!! either way wheres best for plugs?
secondly, my headlights are atrocious, simply shocking, make the mark 1 clio's...
Well had it on road for few weeks now and other week got to stretch her legs for the first time, trip to girlfriends fatherland, Norfolk
good trip and car performed faultlessly and returned 47mpg average as well so more than happy on the long runs, and that was mostly A and B roads, no...
two niggles on my 2000 x plate 172 phase 1
boot light doesnt come on when you open the boot, but if you open door it does so presuming switch is gone, is this part of the boot lock? can it be earth issue or new latch assembly required?
rear washer doesnt work, when i press the switch it...
figured it out, seems the early phase 2 172's came with speedo in the gearbox and someones fitted a later abs type gearbox to this car.
never realised the phase 2's came with the geaerbox speedo drives at all however, thought they all had abs setups apart from the cups??
Right, random issue on a phase 2 172 full fat, so ABS pickup for the speedo.
the speedo needle is not working at all, doesnt move no matter what
ABS has been checked and is fine, working no problems and light comes on and goes out as it should also
have also done diagnostic check on the...
ai keeping the williams for weekend isnt an option really as i have the turbo for fun and thats not going anywhere yet!lol!!
as people have said, williams as daily has been great for last year but i fancy a change!
phase 1 is on just over 90k,engines on 81k :-)
cheers for comments folks!
Old girl shines up okay still, gave her a clean to pop up for sale and found a decent spot for a couple of snaps 8)
and the controversial replacement, dun der derrrrrrrrr
Coops
right i have an idle issue on my phase 1 172, engines from a different car and i used the engine/sensors on engine and loom off the donor car but everything else off the original car, ecu etc etc
it runs perfectly when cold, idles at 800-900rpm or whatever they idle at!lol!
runs fine all...
ah but did they tell you the truth or scare monger you, thats what i want to know? and did they issue you with citizens arrest sampling equipment for rogue a/c gas venters ;-)
cheers for comments people :-
valver turbo is the pride and joy! williams is tatty up close but done 152k bless it and the 172 ate its aux belt, jumped cambelt and monstered the heads off 3 valves, put a hole through a piston etc:-( bought it kippered tho and have engine to go into it now :-)
keeps going up and up, started as a 2k fine, now its 40k and prison, love the fact everyone knows what they are talking about, rofl
weird how we can vent all sorts to atmosphere at work, measure it to all sorts of EN standards and fill out a 'i'm sorry to the EA' and be fine
yet mr plod...
i've heard its nasty, but tbh cant be worse than what i work with everyday so no worries! and tbh for a bit of staining on the bay, think i might cope, tis only a cheap motor
daniel - buy my wheels, make urs look like mine oh most kindered of spirits ;-)
duck - don't buy once, buy thrice!and above all buy no matter what the advice/opinions of others :-)
vein - sell 172 okay ..... but 3 series?really?oh dear! as u say, mk 1 is the future....or the past..or both!
as Daniel knows, all the best things come in 3's ;-)
as such, with a 1.
a 2.
and just for dave88, a 3. lol!!
anyone else so embedded in a clio household they have a brace,a trio, or more...... ? :-)
leaky gearboxes are part and parcel of clio ownership,as above really,if your leaks not too bad then should be fine with just drip tray to catch the residual seeping.basically should stop leaking when oil cooled down again
how do u expect me to do it properly?car is immobile so would have to get it transported to garage and back.that alone would cost more than the car stands me at!lol!
yes dave,172 ;-) buy my white wheels btw ;-) ;-)
so theres 2 nuts? both on upper pipework?
i am keeping car, swapping full lump then will regas the ac next summer!
cant be taken to garage as its at my parents and engines fubar
and where could it accidentally, yet safely, get this leak? i presume its pressurised and nasty? no experience of ac as yet,all my previous cars have barely had power steering, lol!not really a mod con fan!
removing engine from my phase 1 172, no idea if theres any gas in the air con circuit but presuming there is whats the best practice to empty it prior to removing the lump?
any constructive advice, bar 'take it to a garage' or similar comments, much appreciated :-)
thanks in advance
Ben
