Im on a 172 Flywheel, 172 Starter and 1.8(Valver/JB3) gearbox. If it wasnt for my gearbox having the 'bolt in diff plate' I would probably have used a 172 one from the start. Although this is the first time its happened with the starter.. It sounds like its engaging and the motor is spinning but...

Lol, it wasn't lively at all until I drove it.... you don't push it hard enough to warrant a bias valve yet :clown:

Very wierd, mine just sound like they are engaging but make some f*cked up noise like its missing the flywheel

Not sure, it was making a right racket when trying to engage. The same noise happened with my spare after fitting it (so im hoping they are both knackered) and that its not my flywheel! Going to check it with a car battery one evening this week and see if engages/spins up fine off the car, if it...

Right... As you will have seen the engine/car was finished, run in and then taken to Mallory. Had a bit of a nightmare with something playing up when we initially tried to run it in, along with the alternator stopping charging. Got that rebuilt and tried again, still wouldnt not run properly...

Quite a bit different again, grip level is wayyy ahead of R888/A048 and the steering feels better once they have heat IMO. Im going to put a proper write up about mallory/lead upto tomorrow :) And for a laugh...

Think I might start using the Passat on track more, the roofbox was great for downforce...

Yeah, it ran perfectly apart from the starter motor. Posting this from Switzerland at the moment so I will update the thread with Mallory pictures/videos once I'm back in the UK

I ran mine for a year without any weld whatsoever on them, and they never bent like that. They moved outwards but didnt deform completely. I welded mine up two years ago and they have been perfect since... IMO something is bent on Robs car and it needs checking

Finished a few jobs yesterday evening so it was pretty much ready bar the alternator. Bled the brakes through again, dropped the mineral oil and filter then replaced with new, did the tracking and fitted the williams wheels with slicks. So I picked up the refurbished alternator this morning...

Just got in after another late one, engine is now run in and ready to go. Everything seems OK, no bad noises and seems to run smoothly. Brakes need another bleed through and o-ring on the thermostat needs swapping but apart from that its not far off ready. Started by pissing around swapping...

Nearly Rob, nearly. Just literally got in, had a f**king mare trying to run it in. Firstly this morning it was miss firing, turns out one of the 'new' injectors I got from here was knackered, fitted another and all seemed OK. Went to run it in and the alternator ended up dying, so fitted Adams...

Cheers! Got it started earlier, just needs running in now. More tomorrow.

Will do! Well, lots of progress today. The car is 99% done, just needs the new bonnet fitting along with the scuttle panel/wipers/etc. Also had a bit of a mare with euro car parts not ordering the track rod ends in when they said they would, so ive only got a new one fitted to the O/S, the N/S...

Yeah, its just set up to the same as last year for now. I need to pick up the track rod ends in the morning then it will be back on four wheels and I will do the tracking :)

Its SORN Gray, never going back on the road. Although I have 'off road' arrangements for running it in so its all sorted. Couple of hundred miles on mineral oil later this bank holiday weekend then it should be set to go for Mallory :)

Got the engine built up a couple of nights ago including a new waterpump and new cambelt kit.. Refitted the lower inlet, then the flywheel and clutch... Attached the mounts to the gearbox and checked it went onto the block easy enough (i.e. if the clutch is lined up).. Then the...

Bit more done last night, got delayed and had a few other things to do so I didnt get as much done as I would have liked... New crank seals.. Removed old stem seals from the head... New stem seals ready to fit... Valves lapped into the head... Valves fully fitted... Quick...

Yeah, had it skimmed/dipped and got all new stem seals to fit this evening. Then just the valves to go back in and put it onto the bottom end, time it up and its pretty much done :)

Yep... tomorrow evening hopefully!
