    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project the big ends are the ones going onto the block arent they, the rod bearing was spun, not the big end........ the bearings were still in place on the crank-to-block, just scored, they hadnt spun....

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project It was a piston bearing that had spun, i hadnt had any of the crank ones off at that point.... but anyway....took bearing number 2 + 3 off the crank....il let the pictures do the talking... And number 3, no marks whatsoever?

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project Cylinder 1-2-3 (from flywheel end) are all perfect, not a mark on them, re-oiled both sides of the bearings, refitted....didnt check cylinder 4 yesterday as i thought if 3 are ok the other would probably be the same.... Took the cap off rod 4, to find the bearing had...

It turned over multiple times, but was pretty stiff.... Cams turn fine on their own in situ, just once the belt is on and timed up, its very very very...

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project Few other bits done today also....Gearbox Circlip Welded... Mainfold Wrapped, along with other bit of downpipe.... New headgasket, timing belt, built back up....as said above still wont turn over, so upside down and sump off... More tommorow.

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project didnt take it apart as it turned over with the pulley+spanner ok before removing cambelt, and then the head....but now after this.....the engines upside down with the sump off....going to have a look at the rod bearings in the morning

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project not 'easily', the bolt on the crank just tightens, can move it with screwdriver on flywheel, pretty stiff but it moves (with head on and head off)....crank bolt on its own no chance, bolt will snap off again.... i turned it over with the exhaust pulley before i removed...

Just got back in now, engine back together with new HG...new cambelt, timed up...still wont turn over by hand, well....from the crank pulley it wont, the bolt just gets tighter instead of turning the engine over....But if someone turns the flywheel...

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project yeah, undid them in reverse order.. Last time i got it skimmed as it was proper manky, and wanted a fresh surface for a new headgasket, but this one isnt too bad...dont know what to do..

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project have done with a steel rule. cant see any light though/gaps at all in any direction, even down the gaps between the bores.... None of the white spirit had gone from the bowls when I got back...valves must be reet... Dont know if to get it skimmed or not if its flat...mehhhh

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project Bit of an update, few things started to go right again... Drilled pilot hole on the snapped crank bolt, then bigger hole, then used winstons thread extractors which failed....Got some heavy duty extractors and it came out pretty easily :) Next up, the bent stud...

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project Few productive things done today, along with a few unproductive ones...anyway... After fitting the downpipe and setting the length when the engine was in, I had the 'adjustable' bit welded up...Then I painted it with high temp paint, along with the manifold itself too...

    Re: Mk1 Hybrid Project its wierd news at the mo, dont know what was causing the engine not to turn over! mark...ive not tried yet, going to have a go this afternoon....not sure about the solenoid making the gear be stuck in place, as when i removed it, it was in the position it is now...

    most places would use a removal key that is smashed onto the locking key, then bites and allows it to be removed.....cant use them after that again though!
