Maybe but depends how deep the scratches are. Paint on the wheels may be thinner than the car so be careful when sanding. If your doing it by hand i wouldnt go below 1200 paper. Depends what you are trying to repair but i dont think it will work.

To confirm. Ive rang euro car parts and they do not sell the dogbone gearbox mount for the 172. The one the OP is describing is for a 1.6. Which if he had stated probably would have saved all this debate.

Once its all off give them a good polish with something like autoglym srp. Or if you have something harsher like farecla G3 compound.
