I'd normally say go for the top-whack 1-DIN alpine everytime, but now it's silly not to buy DAB. And if you can get bluetooth in there too, it's a no brainer.
Given OP seems unlikely to pour thousands into sik ICE, any Alpine with internal HPF and an output for a sub should be more than enough...
In that case I refer you to my first option ;)

I hated 3rd in my 172 (also a 2004, on original box & clutch etc.)
Didn't matter what speed I did it at, I wound up having to rev-match to make a clean shift.
Depending on the circumstances you may just need some linkages fiddled with, maybe some gearbox oil. Ultimately though, the synchos...

As it's your first car, I'd suggest you spend more effort on driving it and absorbing the joyous costs of being a motorist before you start planning on spending extra :)
