Ok, during the week it had a coat of racing blue in the engine bay, front and rear wheel arches and tops of the rear strut mounts.
Some better pictures of the paint work
Next job was to get it back on its wheels, so the front subframe had to be put back on. First the steering...
will have to decide what to do when we see how much is left over after building this one.
Probably either sell it as a rolling shell or put an engine in it as a track car.
It's a pretty tidy shell, started life at Mark Fish's i think
Just gave the wishbones a quick coat of paint tonight so they would be dry tomorrow to get the car back on its wheels. Also a sneak peak of the freshly painted engine bay and front and rear arches.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's good you are putting in more than the minimum required. People too often scrimp on safety and put all the money into performance mods.
I have a Lifeline 2000 in mine at the moment, and the majority of clubman rally cars have the same or an equivilent system :)
If heard people say they have set their AFFF extinguishers off by accident, and all it did was dribble out :)
The most important thing for the AFFF ones is the correct placement, aiming and installation of the nozzels, else they loose most if not all of their effectiveness.
It's typical...
These were on my desk when I got to work this morning.
So tonight gave the wishbones a quick clean, knocked out the old bushes and put the Powerflex ones on. Easy job. Didn't have a welder to hand tonight so they will be tacked in tomorrow.
Those extinguishers arn't very good i'm afraid; they arnt really designed to stop the car going up, just to damp it down enough for you to get out.
AFFF extinguishers are just like soapy dish water really :)
Actually the MSA Blue Book only states that they have to be fitted according to the Manufacturers specifications, although it does also have this FIA diagram.
So mounting the belts low would be acceptable for competition cars, not ideal certaintly but they wouldnt fail scrutineering
During the week, the subframe and rear beam have been primed, and the engine bay and under the front arches have had their first coat of primer.
Hopefully the front will get another coar of primer next week, and a coat of colour back.
The subframe and rear beam given a coat...
If someone REALLY wants it there's not alot you can do about it.
Fit a quick release steering wheel that you can take off and walk round Sainsburys with.
Thats a good idea about the rear beam thanks, was wondering how the standard fixing would cope with the new strut setup.
Not sure what we are doing about the front at the moment, the 16V driveshafts are too short I think so were going to either see if we could get some made up or get some 172...
Have been reinforcing any areas that might be weak when the car is subjected to a battering.
This meant doing some seam welding, plating and gusseting in various places.
First of all gave the already reinforced front subframe and rear beam a coat of Red Oxide ready for painting...
No more pictures, because I dont think photos of a day drilling out spot welds and scraping off seam sealer is very interesting.
Got some welding on the subframe done, and cleaned it up ready for painting.
Seam sealer off the front bulkhead so it can be seam welded; and the same for the...
I did something expensive sounding to mine on the last event I did.
Bang going into fourth, and it sounds like its broken a tooth or something.
Going to have to send it to Steve (again!), always wears the 3rd and 4th dogs badly.
Re: 70% complete 172RWD!
Are you building in any adjustability for the suspension incase it turns out it handles like a cow the first time you drive it? :)
heh :) http://cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=264615&page=5
The thread tends to get pushed off the first page fairly quick by lots of people posting pictures everytime they clean their cars :p
Ive used Mintex, Wilwood Polys and Hawks.
All pretty good, the Hawks were really nice but not sure how suitable they are for the road. Not sure which type of Mintex pads I used but they were alot worse when cold than the equivilent Ferodo ones
The only reason I ask if they use the same pad...
