I wash my gear after every use to keep them fresh (but don't dry them in a machine drier as it reverses the static and they don't pick up particles as well/at all).
Smell wise it is not that bad. Dirt wise, you are basically wiping the tar off onto the MF.

But for the rest of us, AG Tyre dressing doesn't last, Tesco's Wheel Cleaner is better at cleaning drains, and EGP is a sealant... not a filler polish/glaze.

Wash with a degreaser, detar with Tardis, polish with one of the following;
Belgom Alu
Britemax Metal Twins
Autosol
I have had to use very fine graded wire wool in the past to really get rid of blemishes.
