Last night, minding my own business cruising towards the M25 on the A3 at about 8pm, when I hear a BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP on my left - overlaid with that familiar zizzy noise of a renault 2.0 16v lump doing its business.
Two lads in a Red Renaultsport Clio 182 (not sure if trophy, think...
Got the Ibiza Cupra diesel as a company car.
Had a couple of goes with the gTECH meter to see what shed do 0-60 and on a very hot day the answer is 6.8 secs, repeatedly. With the ESP off mind, as that utterly bogs it off the line every time.
In a straight up race with mates 172 cup it...
Found it best to launch a 172 / 172 cup at a lowly 3,000 rpm otherwise you will get spin. Its a car that deserves an LSD IMO, the way it spins all its power away in 2nd and 3rd gear when exiting corners is infuriating!
Ive driven both cars standard. I have to say Im more impressed with the general pickup and midrange of the cup, however if the driver of the vee was to be totally brutal off the line Id say it would just shade it. Just.
Ive only done one 1/4 mile in a cup and I got a 15.1 on sh*te yokos, so...
My ex always used to be very very careful with the coupe... especially as its so vulnerable, but then Id given her lectures beforehand about where/how to park it ;) . ALWAYS across 2 spaces, NEVER parallel park if youre not sure youll make it in cleanly, and NO CHANGING DOWN INTO 1ST GEAR AT 30...
They are terrible all round tyres, they have good lateral grip in the dry, but that is it. They tramline, scrub out SOOOOOO early in greasy conditions and whats worse is that theyre unpredictable when they do go.
My advice is: If you think your Kumhos are doing a good job, get some...
I got a 15.1 at 89 mph at Santa Pod the weekend just gone in a Clio cup to give you some reference, but it WAS standard. Trashed a 350z in the process ;)
I can reliably do 14.2 sec 1/4s in my Coupe with terminals in the region of 98/99 mph - however the Gtech told me I did it in 14.9...
ABS totally buggers your braking in the snow as it stops the wheels locking (duh!) which in turn stops the snow-plough effect of locked wheels! Hence you actually take longer to stop, which is why a lot of german/scandinavian cars give you a button with the sole purpose of aiding winter driving...
Done it!
only needed 3rd gear and she pulled strongly to produce a 6.4 sec 60-100. This was running on fumes but 2 up (RobD of Cliosport was the ballast) ! Overall Im very very impressed with the cars performance tonight, sod Evo FMICs, just use the !!power of JANUARY!!
Also tried doing...
Taking my 0-60 as about 6.5 secs and my 0-100 as 13.9 secs Id say its gonna be 7.4 secs, but Id like to go check it on the road.
So just under 7 secs is VERY impressive, as the coupe is particularly good once rolling!

There are infinite variables but there is no reason why it is not possible. I was pushing a Focus RS at Brands in my Clio 1.216v, i had track knowledge to my advantage but i made up for what, a 135bhp difference? My Clio just had a k-tec...
You can definitely do better than 15.5 to 100 even if your 0-60 is in the 6s....
If your car struggles off the line but has buckets of torque, then the 0-60 will be poo, but above these speeds its not an issue, the car will then claw it back :D
having driven a 1.2 16v Dynamique (51 reg in silver if you must) and a 172, Id have to say the 172 would have to be driven by a blind, very drunk and extremely nervous cretin to have any worries from the 1.2!! come on!!!! theres almost a 100 PS deficit! not to mention the wider track of the 172...
They do squeal a lot :@ and dont have an overly servo assisted feel.
Standard they were not overly confidence inspiring However after changing the discs and pads for nice fresh ones, and getting some DOT 5.1 fluid in there, the thing stops very well indeed, Ive had numerous comments about it...
My Coupe does 0-100 in about 13.9 secs.
1/4 at 102.2 mph in 14.2 secs
However it is running 257 bhp and 261 lb ft, instead of 220 bhp and 227 lb ft std...
Standard times for a coop are 0-100 in 14.2 - 14.5 depending on where you read it :)
chris c - nay bother! twas nice to have to engage my brain for a while anyway!
in response to all the clio 0-60 issues, why not check your very own forum car comparison section ???
doubt it mate...
if you made a feather shaped object out of cast iron and dropped it off the top of a tall building at the same time as a normal feather, which would you expect to hit the ground first! think about it
indeed!
The brakes on my Coupe have a LOT more weight and speed to deal with and theyll take a good few 120 lepton-0 stops before they give up the fight in a mahusive cloud of acrid smoke.
If youve got something light like a clio you should hardly have any worries on the road at all...
If you chucked a 1.2 litre clio off a cliff next to a 1.2 clio with an elephant in it (what a brilliant idea), the race would go as follows....
In the first instance the cars would both accelerate at 9.8 metres per second (per second) due to the gravitational force acting upon them having...
