Update for anyone else with the same problem.
Had it done by a local garage...
£120 inc Vat for the part - clock spring was how they referred to it.
Hours labour for fitting.
However... once installed the ESP warning light came on, and the garage had to take the car to Renault to get...
The red and black wires in the steering wheel have shorted, and the insulation has totally melted!
It's not possible to separate them and insulate them from each other, because the insulation's gone all the way back to down the column.
I think that the whole rotary switch needs to be...
I'd like to add, I'm not getting at Renault here though, went there with my eyes open.
Their labour rate has to support all the showroom overheads, so thats what you're paying for unfortunately.
Next time will look for an indy... cambelt etc... but by the time you need one, it's often too...
Swindon....
...and you were right. Thanks for the advice. (If i had more time, I would have done the checks you advised - but the Mrs needs the car on the road so it had to go in).
Renault found a problem with one of the injectors. They wanted to change all 4 for £600. (plus the aux belt...
OK... in case anyone is searching for the same issue here's an update. I put the car into Renault today to get the Aux belt done, and diagnose the misfire.
Don't think Renault found anything useful on diagnostics. They tried changing the spark plugs, and it wasn't that. They did a compression...
Yeah, no more new parts! Had tried to work through the parts in a logical order, but it hasn't worked.
Question is... Renault garage or find someone with RS Tuner??
Done a lot of searching already but obviously a very common problem with lots of potential causes.
If i could get some feedback on the comments below that would be great.
Had emissions light come on solid periodically. But it goes off so had ignored it.
Misfire started gradually e.g. on...
Hi Locust
Did that fix the problem - I think I have the same issue.
Got a misfire - changed plugs, leads, coil-pack, o2 sensor.
With the ignition on, the throttle body only opens fully when the throttle pedal is at 100%. e.g.10%, 20% etc no movement.... 100% springs to WOT.
What time is the club entry?... we're in Swindon so may as well tag along if we've got to be there at a specific time.
opps just noticed this thread is abyear out of date!
I have fitted an RS192 recently. Now it's bedded in it has a deeper tone, but isn't very loud over standard really.
Fitted well enough, I didn't spend long lining it up so it needed a cable tie to pull it central.
One of the threads for the bolts that hold the bar between the silencers...
Milltek say to use brasso, or silvo or something.
It does feel like it's made from quite thin sheet, and the silencers are made by two end plates welded around a T-joint to the sheet that forms the body of the can. All the welds look fine but you can see on the welds where the heat has...
Initially we thought it was loud.... but its not really - just deeper. Suits the car. Most difference is the tone 2k - 3k rpm, then at the top end it's got more grr. Dual carriageway its not that much noiser than standard when cruising. Can still talk and listen to the radio etc.
Can't...
I fitted an RS192 this week.... and i'm glad we went for what everyone says is the quietest one.
Haven't been out properly (MOT tomorrow) but it is noticably louder than standard and if you want a quiet exhaust i don't think you'd want to go any louder.
Delivery was within 2 weeks even...
Turkish: We couldn't figure out how you'd get it out in one peice without dropping the beam! Took <2 hours anyway. Rear silencers were getting wedged between the floor and the boot, while the centre section was stuck on the beam
Powey: Scorpion RS192. Haven't driven it yet becuase the car is...
Did it tonight....
Jack would only go as high as the lowest point on the axel stand.Took bumper & wheels off to let the beam go lower.
Managed to get the old exhaust out in one piece. New one went on really quickly.
New exhaust is slightly on the piss, but i'll give it some time to...
I've got a new one coming...
seems to be.
Remove rear bumper
Loosen bolts on bottom of dampers
Jack up rear (HIGH!)
drop rear beam (disconnect dampers)
Undo all mounting points
Remove exhaust (poss flip it upside down to get it out)
Fit new exhaust - exhaust sealant around cat clamp...
Presumably no insurance because car isn't road legal.
Have seen a thread on pistonheads where someone got 3 points/£60 for no MOT and they didn't mention insurance... but if you had a bump and a claim you know the insurance co would wriggle.
Can't renew tax either.
