Get the R26- is much better in every way. If you drive an R26 or even a cup packed ph2 meg, you'll see the handling is a lot better than the stock 225.
I wouldn't assume it's an import just becuase renault have not brought it up on their database, if it's been on a private reg or something that could be an influencing factor. RUk are linked to DVLA, they pick up my car on the private reg when I call- doesnt come up anything on the original...
Lack of service history is not always a major problem in my eyes, if it's only had 2 owners, see if you can trace the history for it- likely hood is the lady owner would have always taken it to the same place. Try renault and see if they have any info on the reg. You can buy a duplicate book...

had one done before on a 1.2 8v- cost £120 to have the head refurbed. Then obviously new gaskets etc and new belt kit.
Depends what the extent of the damage is, which obviously you'll only find out when you take the head off.
