So I have managed to confirm so far that it is a JC5 129 gearbox that has a speedo drive.
Can I get a 129 with speedo drive that has the 182 'bolt in' driveshaft coupling?
If not will a 130 go in and be able to connect to the speedo?
After some help if possible.
Have a 2002 Clio 172 which I have had the problems with the driveshaft circlip into the gearbox.
This was welded in to avoid future issues.
The other day I lost all drive and garage have informed me that gearbox and clutch are knackered.

My I my concern with that is that I need to get my car back on the road and that will take a while to arrive.
Is is it possible to drill holes in the existing clip and bolt that in?

Have you done this? If so is it a job that can be done with the gearbox still in place? I would prefer to avoid having to remove the box if possible.
The circlip on my nearside driveshaft where it joins the gearbox has decided to slip out again causing the problem of no drive.
I replaced the parts with new Renault items when it did it a couple of months back.

My Phase 2 172 has a knocking noise when turning left past 45 degree angle.
Since getting the car back on the road in January, as part of replacing worn parts I have changed the following with genuine Renault parts:
Cup shocks all round
Top mounts
Cooksport springs all round
Front wishbones...
I have managed to get the tracking sorted out (I think).
Took it to a locally recommended price who managed to sort it. They also identified that a broken bolt in the left brake calliper carrier was causing the shocking braking performance.

I now have a nice new re trimmed Snappy wheel and would like it sitting straight as it currently hangs to the left.

Just done my 172 non cup today.
Replaced the following:
OEM Cup Shocks all round
Cooksport springs
New top mounts on front
Pair of front wishbones
Approximately £450 for that little lot (including postage)
I have a 2002 phase 2 1*2 and it has recently developed an intermittent clicking noise.
The noise is every now and again when I start the car. No idea what it is but it sounds as though it is coming from behind the stereo/climate control unit, possibly from the driver's side. Anybody any ideas...

It had locked in position apparently the day before I went to see the car and he managed to get it unlocked although now the boot is always unlocked.

Just picked it up now after some negotiating. Have to say what a laugh to drive. Going from a high powered rear wheel drive automatic to a 172 is like driving a go kart.

Revisiting the site as I am thinking of coming back to the Clio fold after selling my 1.2 Mk2 Phase 2 Extreme back in 2005.
After flirting with a MKIV Supra, R32 Golf (MKIV) and my current car a BMW 335d E92 I am looking at a run around whilst I save up some money for another car...
Just come back from Turkey and everywhere I turned was one of Phase 1 and Phase 2 models. Didnt even know that Renault made them.
